That Brings up a good point. If kit abc123 sells out and they are selling for twice their original amount on the secondary market, wouldn't that be a signal to the manufacturer to reissue the kit? Guess they don't look at things like that. Not sure what I'm missing here.

Sorry, I thought it was a 'buy it now'. Shipping on my screen shows $15.83 out of Ohio. Hell, go ahead and get it. That way Academy will surely reissue itWink

I have one if you're still looking. I bought it used a few years ago, but never built it. The kit has been opened, and a couple spruces were taken out of their plastic bags. The two halves of the body are off of their spruces, as is the tail section. The tail pieces are taped, but not glued, together. As far as I know, all of the parts are in the box.
If you're interested, you can email me at cwalker2174(at)yahoo.com. I'd rather talk off the board, as buying and selling is not allowed on the forum.

Cary

Well, that didn't work. I offered $125 but was turned down. Got a notification this morning that it sold for $150. Guess I shouldn't be so cheap! LOL. There are a couple for others listed on feebay but they are all listed over $200.

USPSJuan. I totally understand not wanting to pay too much for an Academy CH-53E. Its not a perfect kit and anything over a $100 seems unfair. That said, in the end what does it matter paying twice as much as its worth? If you are like me, successfully building and finishing a kit depends on my level of interest and focus on having a certain model in my collection.

Here's what I think you should do. Since most of these Ebay models won't sell at these inflated prices, contact the sellers directly and negotiate a price you can live with. It doesn't hurt to ask. rig by steve hawley, on Flickr" alt="" />

This looks fantastic, btw!

As I stated earlier, my son-in -law was a powerplant mechanic on the Marine CH-53E. So I would like to get as close to that as possible. I don't mind paying a premium for this kit but $190+ is a bit over the top. That is where my daughter met him ( Marine Corps ) She worked on Huey's and Cobra's and he worked on CH46's and CH-53's. And yes, I already have the other 3 kits in line waiting. Thanks again for any help.

The op asked about a CH53. Granted it's not up to the academy kit but it's probably a fourth the price and not that bad. Better than not building one st all.

Revel/Germany has one I believe, not sure how recently it was issued but it's not a bad kit and much cheaper I would think.

Revell's is a CH-53C/D/G (German version) model, which is a totally different aircraft than a CH/MH-53E.  It is also a 1970s model that has been reissued multiple times over the years.  It is nowhere near the detail level of the newer Academy kits.

So still no joy on finding the Academy CH-53 E kit. What if any, are my other options. MY son-in-law was a powerplant mechanic on these birds and I would like to give him a completed one. Any help is appreciated.

According to scalemates.com there was a reissue in 2012 and a Wolfpack rebox for a JSADF version in 2013, so they're around. Bummer is that they were and are a hot item; eBay prices are approaching $100. No telling why Academy hasn't done another boxing. The same question comes up many times about other desireable kits. Good luck finding one in your price range!

I'm ISO this kit which is apperently been discontinued. Do any of you fine folks have a line on this kit. This also begs the question, if this kit is so popular that no one has it then why was it discontinued? As always, thanks in advance!
