wat - the "$5,000.00" bit?

I couldn't find anywhere written if he SPENT "5k" on this model or he SOLD it for "5k", or that this is how much it costed him in man hrs and equipment!

I dunno why u would want to say that - but every man to his own!

fantastic model nonetheless - outstanding!

what . . . the going rate these days aint good enough for ya! I take it is USD, because if it was Aussie Bucks, I wouldn't charge that rate after putting in all that effort. This chap has submitted a couple of production wegpage articles detailing his work over several months. I re-looked back at his first article submission, and his states some guy rang and asked him to build a helo - for sale (I assume so). But why would you sell a chopper for 5k and who would buy it? Confused [%-)] These somethin missing here, and we aint being told the full story Eight Ball [8].

I'm reminded of a quote . . . "when you find something that you love to do, you'll never have to work another day in your life!". Money isn't the important factor, hence I dont know why u would even bother grand-standing to everyone boasting such a large figure (and do it in the context he did)!

Yeah, I guess I'm having a hard time believed that somebody would pay 5000 for a 1/48 Apache.

Excellent model, fair enough...but $5,000?
Maybe he built it while he was at work, and counts that as getting paid...dunno.
Anyway, excellent model!

The model he built is indeed very nice and the finished result is spectacular....but 5000? I'm not quite understanding what he means by that. Did some guy PAY him THAT MUCH to build one? Seems kind of weird, as out04 said, that someone would pay that much for a 1/48 scale model. Maybe a full functional, flying RC model, but a simple 1/48....damn!
But, as they say 'To each his own'. I personally never would.

Hmmm.... it's true, his rates came to $5000, but wonder if whomever asked him to build it actually PAID him that much for it? (and I wonder how well that buyer is recovering from the beating his wife gave him for blowing their IRS refund?) Big Smile [:D]

I've built personalized Contract Models for people before, but kept things realistic when quoting them a price... regardless, I don't think I could ever muster the gall to publish what I MADE ($) on them; to me, that's stepping over the line just a hair! Yes, it's a beautiful model that obviously required a lot of work... but... Dead [xx(]

Take care,
Frank

For 5 G's, it better move in, clean the house, cook dinner, and sleep with me!!! There's no way I'd pay that much for something I couldn't even sit in and start up myself!!! That statement right there, made the model a piece of crap in my eyes. Any one that egotistical, can keep it!! I don't think he even charged any that much, he probably just keeps a wierd tally in his head.

It is a beautiful model, in it's own right.

Hmmm....

Honestly, I wasn't all that impressed. Sure, its a nice model, but then again, so are a lot of others. No cockpit detail shots or anything. I was impressed with the detail on the tail rotor, but other than that, there's nothing there that any modeler with some skills couldn't do. I think the monetary figure is just a silly add-on to say "see, look what I did". Not that I'm trying to bash this guy's model, because I'm not. Its a well-done model. Just nothing out of the ordinary. Were the engines completly scratchbuilt with workable access doors and fully detailed avionics bays, then I could see 500+ hours on it. Just didn't do it for me.

But then again, I'm bitter because I haven't had a chance to work on my 32nd Scale AH-64D conversion in 6 months.

Impressive model, some of the details on the rotor and such are particularly impressive. But I can think of some better ways of spending $5000. Like about 120 plastic Apache kits perhaps...
