Wooooah Brian!

Now that would certainly be an attractive addition to the collection, wouldn't it? Wink [;)]

Keep my eyes open for that one, Thanks!

Glad to be of service!
Now, I'm not that much of a rotorhead, so please help me out here...is the Hip the largest single- (main)rotor helo? Or am I thinking of something else?

It's in the June issue of Hobby Japan, on page 241.
I checked the Trumpeter and Inter-Allied (Trumpeter's distributor here in Japan) websites, but could find nothing.

Close (correct OKB), but not quite. The Mil Mi-26 'Halo' is the largest single-main-rotor helicopter to go into production. It is also the only production helicopter with an 8-bladed main rotor.

Too bad that photo was in HJ magazine and not online though - I'd love to see it!

Ciao!

Here is a comparison.

MI-8 Hip:

MI-26 Halo, just a slight bit larger:

I think the Mi-6 Hook is even larger, but the Mi-26 Halo can carry bigger loads. The Mi-6 has a rotor diameter of 115ft (35m) and a fuselage length of 109ft (33.3m) compared to the Mi-26's rotor diameter of 105ft (32m) and fuselage length of 111ft (33.8m). This is according to the Federation of American Scientists website, http://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/index.html

Didn't say in the article. It's one of the new kits that will be on display next month at the Shizuoka Hobby Show, so I'll see what they say then (I'll take some pix, too!).

Or so I've heard!

Just saw the unpainted "test shot" model of the Mi-8/Mi-17 at the Shizuoka Hobby Show this past weekend. Big! Will post a pic here soon.
Release date is sometime in August.

I saw a couple of sites that are listing the Mil as a May release. But I assume that's Japan, so prob a little while before it comes over here.

The Japan release is August, not May, so said the Trumpeter rep here at the show.
