monogram 1/48 ah-1S cobra

Hi all. I posted here before about this but I recently got the Monogram 1/48 Cobra AH-1S. I also just got the Fujimi one.
Now after opening the box I noticed there is a lot of empty space in and behind the engine exhaust of the Monogram kit.
Any advise of how to approach this? Any resin bits or conversion kits to fill these empty spaces??

I'll be making it up as a JGSDF machine.

Hi Liam,

Welcome to the best modeling forum around.... Smile [:)]

I'm not really sure of the exact area you're referring to... below is a good close-up if the exhaust area of an AH-1S... maybe you can compare what you got to this and be a bit more specific about the area you're interested in.

Take care,
Frank

Dear OldHooker:
Thanks for the great photo.
Firstly, my bad. I didn't look closely enough at he instruction sheet, but apparently, there is something stuck inside the engine housing...it's called the transmission.
As you can see, I am not normally someone who makes helicopters!
Is there anychance you have more photos of the machine above? Mabye from the front??

Also, any idea what color the interior of hte cockpit is? On http://www.angelfire.com/ca4/hlmp/jgsdf.html there's a great article about building the machine I want to make, but he paints the cockpit overall black. The instructions call for overall dark gull gray.
Which would be correct for the Japanese machine?

I know, it's a lot to ask, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just another thought: The painting instructions call for the transmission to be painted gunmetal or some such. Is this ok? I ask cos I know that modren jets usually have the interior of the engine housing painted white or something.

yeehah12001, where did you find the model? I've been looking high and low, and haven't been able to spot that one. Built one about 15 years ago, but it went to the boneyard long ago...would love to build it again.

The transmission is not gunmetal but more toward a dull chrome or aluminum. The inside structure of all modern Army helicopters is Yellow Chomate which took the place of Green Chromate used during the Vietnam days.
Good luck on this .. it's a great kit except for the fact the pilot's helments are for the Apache.

ppickett: too late. I have painted the transmission as per instructions.... a nice gunmetal shade and he two halves are together. Oh well.

Knight667: I picked up the Monogram and Fujimi 1/48 AH-1S Cobra through E-Bay. Both were sheer luck. I was advised on this very forum to keep an eye over there and lo and behold....two appeared within days of each other......

Bed time for me soon,
must go ( 2.45am Saturday)
