MOGWA, Does Ft Drunm still have hueys???

just USAAD, and theyre going away soon. Very soon...

not just USAAAD... Thier still flown out of Ft Belvoir with MDW12th AVN where they're used as VIP transports, and a rapid deployment option for the Engineer Co there.

We still fly the heck out of them here!

pretty damn sure we (the Army) still use them in the Sinai, as part of our job as "observers" between Israel and Egypt.

Is there any truth to the rumor about Hueys having a drop dead date this September 04 or 05?

I doubt theres a drop dead date to get rid of them... as I said about them being VIP Transports, Ft Belvoir is right outside D.C. and they ferry high brass around from the Pentagon. Many of these guys like to take the stick from time to time and have been in the Military longer than Ive been alive. (alot of of these guys saw action in Vietnam) That being said, the only helo many of them checked out on is the Huey. They love having them "right there" and I dont think they'le be be getting rid of them any time soon. This may have changed but last time I was at CMTC in Germany 2002, they still ised Huey's as OPFOR

The MFO in Sinai has them, CMTC in Germany has both OPFOR and observer hueys, and I heard there are still a couple scattered in Europe doing VIP and ash/trash. As for stateside, there are still a good amount in active duty. Ft. Hood has two in the 21st Cav., and they are trying to get more. The guard still has a ton. We have 12 ourselves. As for a drop dead date, don't believe it. The new word is at least until 2008. There has been increasing talk on upgades to the Bell 210 (huey 2) as the replacement. We (148th Med Co.) are one of 4 NG medevac units. GA and LA guard just got off deployements and are probably going to go back in 05. To releave the other huey units doing medevac now. I really don't see the time for transition to a new or upgraded helo in the near future. My guess is we will get the "0" timed hueys (Bell 210 or 412) as a replacement. I think the army will operate some form of huey for the next 10-15 years. Oh, the army also has begun to take a bunch of hueys out of mothball and gave several contracts out to refurb the aircraft for them, not for export sales. HUEYS FOREVER!!!

It will be a very sad day indeed when I can no longer hear the familiar thump thump of a Huey's rotors. To me, that sound is and says HELICOPTER. I will miss it. Like stated above, HUEY'S FOREVER!

That's right......Chinooks are coming to Ft. Drum. I believe they will arrive FY06, possibly a little later.

I am here to inform you that the hooks are sue to arrive next month. No crews, just some hooks and a few guys to take care of them while they await a unit to be formed up. And the Dinosuars will be replaced at USAAD shortly thereafter.

One of my E-mail buddies is crewing Hueys in the Sinai. Another is in the La. NG and was glad to turn their UH-60A's for Hueys. He spent almost a year at Ft. Campbell covering for the 101st Medevac Unit. Love those Hueys!
