Question about this Huey....
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, May 7, 2004 4:32 PM
Greetings fellow rotorheads.....

Ok, so I'm cruising along trying to come up with a unique idea of how to build a Panda 1/35th UH-1N with a cool color scheme....when over at Helispot.com, I come across this picture of A Ventura Co. Sherrif's Dept. Huey. It looks like a standard 212 in body style (flat streamlined nose, Starboard tail rotor), but check out the engine......not a twin! Of course, it could be viewed the other way around as a 205A-1, but with a streamlined nose. And its not the "big-lifter" version either. But I have never seen this kind of huey before. The FAA N-number inquiry lists it as an EH-1H, but helispot states it to be a UH-1HP Huey II. Does anybody have any more info on these birds, or could specify exactly what version it is?

Here is a link to the page, along with other views of the copter:

BTW, it just so happens that the Panda -1N kit includes the extra parts to make a single engine version.....Sooooo, I may just end up attempting to build this beast...

Any info is appreciated!! Cheers, friends!

That aircraft was converted to a Huey II. I think it began life as either an EH-1X or an HH-1H. Anyway, Just combine the panda UH-1N kit and the Panda UH-1D kit. Just use the upper pylon and dog house area from the "D" model kit. I think everything else on the Huey II is from the "N" model anyway. Note, the tow upper pylons and dog houses are interchangable in both kits so you should have very little problems! Dave, Huey Crew Chief

Thank you, gentlemen!! I appreciate all the info! I'm about to get started on that conversion to the Huey II shortly.....as soon as I can figure out HOW to interpret it....

I'm about to try a couple of different unique ideas for this little project.......first, I've never seen a Huey II modeled before, so that will be part of it. The Panda -1N does contain the parts for a single engine -1D (or -1H), so the conversion will be a piece of cake.

For the actual painting and markings, I'm thinking of just letting my imagination run wild on this. I'm kinda getting burnt on doing the ol' authentic markings job, so I got an idea of doing a little, ahem, "customizing" on here. I dont wanna give away the suprise, but I'll send some in progress pics as soon as I get going. Nothing drastic, and it will just be a good ol' chopper, but this oughta be interesting......

Find ya'll in a bit....

I will put it to you simply, Use everything from the "N" model except the the engine cowling and dog house. Use ONLY the "D" model engine cowling and dog house. Nothing else will be used from the "D" model. Very easy. Good luck! Dave
