1/100 Helicopters
Posted by Rob Gronovius on Saturday, April 5, 2003 10:25 PM
I've grabbed a bunch of 1/100 scale helicopters. They are nicely made and I've noticed them in boxes by Accurate Miniatures and Revell. They are the UH-60 Blackhawk and Nighthawk and the SH-60 Seahawk. I've also found an AH-1G and UH-1H.

Does anyone know the origin of these kits? My first one I found was boxed with a submarine from the Hunt for Red October. I've since been looking for all the different variants. Are there any more that I have run across?
TIA

I'm not certain if this will be of any help to you, but years ago I bought a 1/100 Sikorsky Skycrane in a Revell box, I was told it had its origin in either the Tamiya or Fujimi line.

I also had a 1/100 A-6 Intruder and SAAB Viggen in Revell packaging and was told they were also of Tamiya or Fujimi origin.

I don't know about the others, but I do know that Tamiya made a 1:100 UH-1B a while back. That CH-54 sounds cool!

I have a few helos in 1:144 scale, some by Revell. This is kind-of at the low extreme of the scale spectrum. The smallest one I have is (I think) 1:350 scale, from a Fujimi carrier air wing set.

Tamiya made a bunch of helos in their old 1/100 line. I think there was an AH-1 (not too sure on that one) but they did make the following (I'm lookin' at these right now! Tongue [:P]) Boeing-Vertol V-107-II, CH-54 Skycrane and UH-1B Iroqouis. They may have made a Hotel Huey as well, but I'm not sure.

The AccMin kits, I think, were new tooling. The UH-1B is not the same as the Tamiya kit. Matter of fact, I'm no Rotor head and I have NOT hugged a Huey lately, but I think the AccMin kit may be a later version, not a Bravo. It has the longer cabin and different looking engine cowling. The Apache, Cobra and Blackhawks I dunno about. I have nothing to compare them to.

There were a few fixed-wings mentioned; the Sabb35 and the A-6. I don't recall what the Tamiya 100th A-6 looked like, so I can't say. The Revell kit looks like it could be an old Tamiya mold though. It has that "look" to it. The Viggen... I have a BEN Hobby Viggen in 100th and, again, haven't seen the Revell offering. What with molds being swapped with the frequency of a cheap HAM radio these days, one never knows!
