Nicaraguan Mil-24 from Sandanista period
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, July 18, 2004 11:04 PM
Did the Sandinista Mi-24 Hind helicopters wear the same camo scheme that the two remaining Nicaraguan mi-24s wear -- the very light tan (almost a German armour dunkelgelb!) with a very dark reddish brown and a dark green heavily applied?

Also, did the Mi-24s carry around ATGMs during that period, or were they modified to carry more anti-personnel armament?

Any ideas on markings?

I've got a little Revell Mi-24 and am going to be building it up, and for fun I'd like to do an unusual paint job.

Larry,
Is the kit 72nd? If so, here is a decal sheet with what you need.
"1:72 Mi-24D/V/P/VM, Mi-25 Hind (11 options)

* Mi-24D black 328, Sandanista Air Force, Nicaragua, 1987. Red-brown (FS 30219) with leaf green camouflage (34079) over light blue (35526).
This set is from Begemot (that's 'Behemoth' in English) a new Russian decal maker who have produced sheets in 1:72 for the 'Helix' and 'Hind'. The description is based on emailed scans, so no definite comment on quality can yet be offered, although they look good so far. There is evidence of slight colour mis-alignment on both sheets, but nothing serious. Information about availability should follow in a few weeks time. "
This info is according to Heli-kit news http://www.5chr.freeserve.co.uk/hkn161.htm
Linden Hill is also supposed to release another set of markings for the Hind from Bush Wars sometime this month. No idea what is on it but set one includes a lot of interesting schemes. http://www.lindenhillimports.com/lhd48006.htm Set 2 is number LHD 72012.
I have seen other sets with these markings but not sure if they were old Microscale, Hi-Models or someone elses.

Hi Phillip, no it's 1/144th scale, but that is still excellent news. I could get the decals and color guide and use them to do my own painting and handpaint the decals. Maybe I could even reduce them and make my own decal paper.

I'll check it out. Thanks.
