Bagram Model Club
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 4:38 PM
If I remember correctly, a few months back there was mention on the forum of a modelling club overseas, more specifically in Afghanistan. I will be going to Bagram Air Base for a year beginning in August, and would like some heads-up on what to expect. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I just left BAF at the beginning of July, and I never heard of a model club over there, but maybe I just didn't mix with the right crowd. If you're going to be staying at Bagram the majority of time, you'll have some decent digs, at least by Marine standards with power and a/c but you'll have to pack all that you'll need kit and supply-wise or have someone send it to you once you're settled in. What unit are you with and who are you replacing?

I spent most of my time down on the norh end of the base, the army likes to keep the Marines as far from them as possible.

LemonJello -

Thanks for the info on Bagram. I'm no longer an active-duty Marine, but while I was in I worked on CH-53's. I'll be at Bagram as a civilian, providing maintenance support for Marines. It will be great to be in that environment again, even if it is in Afghanistan.

Thanks again for the info... any heads up is certainly helpful!

The reserve -53s were getting settled in while I was there. As far as Bagram goes, it's not a bad place, compared with other parts of Afghanistan. Like I said, the quarters aren't bad, you'll have some of the comforts of home. I wish I had packed a couple of kits and the basic supplies to pass the time while I was there. Take care and stay safe!

Once a Marine, always a Marine. Semper Fi!
