Huey conversion

hey guys... i was gonna get the 1/24th scale monogram kit, but alot of you guys had really good things to say about the 1/35th scale academy kits.. so ive been swayed, i havent gotten my "huey in action" book yet, so forgive me if i murder the configs, but i wanna do the gunship config, has the rockets and the minigun mounted on the sides, NO grenade launcher on the front. so my question is for those who have built either the heavy hog or the frog version of the academy kit, is there an option to not put the grenade launcher on, or is it molded to the nose? if you have the april 2003 edition of FSM, thats basically what im tryin to do.. just a little bigger and more detailed. plus theres all those great detailing kits from eduard or whatever the company is called.

JLerch,

Don't worry, the "Chunker" isn't molded on. I built my C model as "Ace of Spades" from the 174th AHC (The Frog kit comes with those markings, but both the markings and weapons configuration are wrong). You've got plenty of options as far as weapons fit. Keep us posted on your progress!

JLerch I'm in the process of doing the heavy hog at the mo. I have nothing bad to say about the kit and the eduard pe set I got is excellent.

Okay, James. You answered one of the questions I was gonna post. I am sold on buying the Eduard PE set. Although, I need 3 possibly 4.
Now for the other question I was going to post. Did you use the film or the transparency for the instrument panel and what was your reason for that decision?

I used the coloured card due to an accident involving a new blade and a car back firing and the fact it was 2 in the morning.

The night was quite and the there was this blasted backfire, the blade went slip, I was left with half on the table top and the other in my freshly brewed, piping hot cup of java.

I was going to use the transparency film as I had painted the control panel. The coloured card look just as good. (I used future on the dials to make them kinda glassy)

Thanks, James.
I may give them both a try since I have 4 of the kits.
I'm going to build three with different weapons loads and I'm going to backdate one with Cobra Company's UH-1B backdate set.
