Sorry for the delay in posting these
They were taken at RAF Brize Norton last month
The 90 was lashed on a Herc using the standard 20 inch grid with 10K chains and QRC's.
I do not know if the death bananna has the same grid on the floor but the tie down scheme would not vary that much anyway.
One thing to note is that for a TAC Landing the chains would be attached to the floor and the QRC's attached to the vehicle body .

I also have a harrier GR3 wings tail and fuselage on JATE trollies as well as a Warrior and a Spey? prepped for air transport - the warrior is on a demo C17 floor with all lashings included.
If you want to see them - give me a shout.

Hey Philp-

A couple British Chinooks were stationed at the same place i was in Saudi, and if can recall correctly, they did indeed have the overhead door winches installed, along with the mini-guns; although i'm not too sure about what they had on the ramp since i never saw them with their ramp(s) down. I believe they also had the EAPS (Engine Air Particle Separators) installed as well. US Chinooks didn't start installing EAPS until late '92. In fact, my aircraft (85-24347) was the first a/c in Army inventory to have EAPS installed....so that's sort of a cool bragging right.

Not to sure about the rovers. But i can tell you "if" they did carry them inside, they still would of had the aircraft configured with standard seating. However, when Desert Storm began, we removed all of our internal seating on the Chinooks for mission purposes to accommodate more troops, and faster onload/offloads.

The rovers themselves (if carried) would have been secured with 5,000lb cargo-straps, or 5,000lb tie-down chains. These are pretty standard equipment on all Chinooks, and i can't imagine them using anything other than that - except maybe a couple 10,000lb cargo-straps.

Hope that helps a little.

Ok, how about some info on the British Desert Storm birds that had the extra camo painted over the sand to help in night ops (ie SAS inserts). I have some shots of them after they returned to England but can't seem to find any good pics of them during the conflict. Think they were armed with miniguns in the front positions and a FN MAG on the ramp but can't confirm. Also, did they have the door winch on during these missions? And lastly, did they carry SAS rovers inside and if so, how were they tied down and what other seats would have been installed with the rover?
Hope you can help.

Thanks Frank! I've hit the motherload!! Big Smile [:D] (and in color no less)

Those are VERY useful and exactly what i need.

If you do have the Aerofax book lying around, the only other thing i would need would be any pictures of the C-Box, Tunnel cover area (driveshafts), and aft landing gear.

I have the cut-away diagram already, but thanks for the offer.

Thanks for helping me out on this! You 'ol 'Hooker' you!!

Jeff,

Have you seen the site's below? It contains gobs of D Model photo's...

Page 2:

Look around there, and let me know what else you may need... I have one of those Aerofax books around here somewhere, and also have one of those cutaway diagrams of the D Model.

Take care,
Frank

(Needed) Chinook Reference Material

Can anyone provide me with any scale drawings, or detailed pics of the D Model Chinook? I've been pulling my hair out lately trying to find good reference pics, and i keep coming up with the same thing during my search on the net.

I used to have the Squadron Pubs "Chinook in Action", and Aerofax' Minigraph #27, but they were destroyed in a fire, and are now since out of publication. I 'could' purchase these books online, but these books are running around $20 and $50 respectively.

Some of you may have these books lying around, and i would gladly pay someone for their time if they could scan a bunch of images and send them to me. From what i can recall, the Aerofax book had the best reference pics for the D Model.

Could anyone please, PLEASE help me out??

Thanks in advance,
-Jeff

Oh, and thank you again Darin for sending me that copy of the -10!!
