I got one of those tiny Revell 1/144 Chinook's the other day, and no sooner was it opened than I started thinking; Since there are no models of the Boeing/Vertol Model 347 test Chinook, why not convert this little guy into one!

I doodled out a rough once-over, to visualize what would be required, and think this project may be squeezed in stack somewhere!

Hey Frank - man you read my mind. GO FOR IT!

I was sitting here the other day thinking about how i'd like to convert one of my 1/72 scale chinooks into the '347' model. Personally i've always liked that particular model....not only for it's looks, but the fact that it shares the last 3-digits of my a/c in the Army. The only thing i forsee as being tricky would be the re-working of the rotorheads to accommodate 4 blades. May have to get another kit just for the additional blades and pitch-varying housings. Just a thought.

Just curious, but how 'small' is that 1/144 chinook? Can you take a pic and show me?

Jeff,

Yes, the Model 347 has always held a fascination for me too! Looking forward to getting this started. Below is a picture I just scanned of the contents (two small tree's was stacked because it all wouldn't fit on the scanner bed. A nickle is included for size relation)

One of my good friends, Mr. Dan Dugan, was the test pilot for the 347 program. (his e-mail link is on the page linked in the first post) I came to know him because he was the PIC on the first ACH-47A built, when it was hurriedly ferried to San Francisco from Edwards, for it's trip to Vietnam, late '66.

Yes, it is small... I've been fiddling around with a 1/144 YS-11, and I guess I just got inspired. (or maybe it is because my new glasses helps me to see so much better, and I'm going with it!) Smile [:)]

You're right Jeff....

I heard they were going to install a flat plate somewhere near the stinger on the Hind, and emboss a beautiful portrait of Jack-O for a psychological warfare experiment. Appropriately, this plate became known as the "End" piece. Hmmmm.... so that makes it the Hind's End..... or the Hind End. Great picture of the Hind End, Jeff! Smile [:)]
