know of a 1/72 scale M240G for helo door gun?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, August 29, 2004 9:10 PM
Hello all,

I'm planning to build a USCG MH-68A Hitron. It is armed with one M240G machine gun fitted on the port side.

Does anybody know where I can get a 1/72 scale M240G ? Maybe a 1/72 scale armour kit, an existing helicopter kit, or after-market?

Much thanks,

Tim

Trying 1/72 scale armor may be your best bet right now, and even that may be limited. Tanks and LAVs usually mount the M240C or M240E1. M240Ds are mounted on USMC Hueys but I have yet to see AM kits for this version either. If you do find one, adding a stock shouldn't be too difficult (famous last words) to make a M240G.

Thanks Carl,

Know of any specific kits I can take a look at? I can look it up myself, but if you know it off the top of your head....

Cheers,

You could try Revell of Germany's M1A1(HA) kit in 1/72nd. It's got a M240 for the gunner, but I'm not sure how feasible it would be to modify it with a stock in such a small scale.

CMK does 1/72 scale US helicopter crewman and troopers. I'm sure they have a door gunner, maybe he has an M240G.

I was looking at my Dragon 1/72 scale Challenger II kit and it comes with a pair of turret machine guns for the loader and commander. The machine gun has a butt stock like an M240G. I think it would be a better place to start than an Abrams loader's M240 machine gun that has a pair of hand grips at the rear of the gun.

Hey guys,

I’ve looked into your suggestions and here’s what I’ve found.

CMK makes a 1/72 US Helicopter Crew (Vietnam) kit #129-72080.

It doesn’t include a door gun, but I may get the kit anyway for the door gunner and modify his stance.

Dragon makes quite a range of 1/72 Challenger kits, and they all look like they have a M240G with butt-stock.

It looks like I can spring $8.95 for the 2003 Iraq kit, and get my hands on that gun.

In case your curious about what I’m trying to build…
