Does anyone know where I can get a AH-1G in 1/72?

I believe Airfix and Fujimi made/make 1/72 scale AH-1Gs. Possibly ESCI as well?

Try searching Google, or Infoseek for 1/72 scale AH-1G - i'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

If you can't find an AH-1G kit, get the Fujimi AH-1J and AH-1S, with a little kitbashing and a little work you can make a "G" watch your reference's to get the configuration's right. Hope this helps.

I read an article some time ago that was not too flattering when it came to reviewing the Fujimi kits of the AH-1. Something about the fuselage shape and
cross section. I recall that the author suggested kit bashing the Hasegawa AH-1F and one of the Italeri kits. The Fujimi J nosecone and canopy may not be too bad, though. I'll try to find it and pass along the reference for those who are interested.

I still have one of the Monogram kits buried in my 'to build' pile. They even released it once with 2 kits in the same box.

Not many real AH-1G kits were made in 1/72 scale. There are later AH-1 Cobras but just Monogram and Matchbox did the early G model. The Monogram kit is the better of the two. It is an initial variant with the tail rotor on the port (left) side of the boom.

The old Matchbox AH-1G kit is a later variant with the tail rotor on the starboard side. It is probably easier to find than the Monogram one since it was re-released in a Matchbox box after Revell of Germany ended up with the molds. The Matchbox one has decals for both a US Army Cobra and one of the initial 38 AH-1Gs given to the Marines. The decal quality of the Revell reissue of the Matchbox kit are superior to the decals that come with the original Matchbox issue. Same markings, just better quality decals.
