Picked up Monogram's re-issued AH-1G today...

Woot! Big Smile [:D] I'm so damned excited about getting this kit.

Comes molded in light grey, and has an updated sprue with new rocket pods, lower wings (for the afore-mentioned pods), and some vents for the side of the fuselage. The decals look to be really nice with two options (Voodoo Lady, 11th Armored Cavalry and a bad ****** looking shark's mouth for a 7th Squadron, 1st Armored Cavalry Cobra). Now I just need to get Chief Snake's AH-1G cockpit set, and I'll be ready to build this bad boy!

One thing peculiar about the fuselage is it has a mix of recessed and raised panel lines. Did the orginal issue of this kit have that feature as well?

Anyhoo, thought I'd share my enthusiasm.

Cheers,
Albert Clown [:o)]

Question is, did they re-scribe the panels so they're correct? I'm interested in the new rocket pods and lower wings... sounds cool. By the way, what's the tail number for the 7/1 bird? Just curious, since I've got a good working relationship with them.

Thanks!

Hi Jon,

The tail number is 67-15687. BTW, here's a scan of the new sprue;

67-16587 served with B Troop 7/1 Cav in RVN from 68 through 72, then E troop 1st Cav in Alaska and ended it's career at 6th Air Cav Combat Brigade at ft. Hood in 75. Most likely converted to a Mod S and soldiered on.

Orginal did have both raised and recessed panel lines. The old one built into a nice model, sounds like the reissue should come out nice with the new rocket pods and lower wings. Sounds like a winner.

It sounds like the panels are still incorrect. The engine and transmission doors are completely wrong on the Revell kit. It'll take some filling and re-scribing, but its worth the extra effort.

Nope. It is a reissue of Revell's 1/32nd AH-1G circa 1970's. It was released under the Monogram label.

Welcome to the forums.

albymoore: Is this kit better than RM original release (I have 2 of these stored away)? Is the tail rotor right or left handed and did they correct the chin turret?
BTW - The cobra co's cockpit and weapons set is unbeatable, IMHO. Just wish someone would make an interchangable tail rotor housing assembly
