Figures in 1/48th scale for UH-60L?
Posted by Yatch on Sunday, September 5, 2004 6:58 PM
I'm starting up an Academy 1/48 UH-60L Blackhawk, but the kit doesn't have any figures - no pilots, even.

I like the hardware to look like it's "in use" or at least be able to stick somebody in it. I never went for the "air show" look, sans people.

I haven't tried my local hobby shop, yet, but was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue, and what they did about it.

Oh, by the way, it's not going to be modelled after any one helo in particular, and won't be built box-stock, but somewhere in between. I figure a couple of pilots, a chief, and a squad of infantry should look pretty good.

Dragon makes a U.S. Helicopter Crew kit (4 crewmen). The kit number is 3311 and Roll Models sells them online. The crew is that of the Vietnam era but with some "tweeking" you can update the figures until someone comes out with a modern U.S. Helo crew.

Sign - Oops [#oops] Sorry Yatch...what I recommended was for 1/35 scale not 1/48. Try the Hasegawa 1/48 Flight/Ground Crew kits and I know Verlinden also makes some ground crew kits in 1/48. Revell/Monogram's 1/48 Huey Hog has two pilots with it, but that may be a last resort. Either way you go, some modifications to the figures will be needed.

Sorry for the mess up in info. Banged Head [banghead]

I might be mistaken but, I believe CMK also makes a set with pilot, co-pilot and gunner for the 60 series.

Some promising stuff there. I can't fomd any pictures, though for these kits. And I couldn't find one specifically for the 60 series, but I don't mind. I'm having to modify the heck out of the kit for details, anyway, I figure I may as well modify the figures, too.

Thanks for the leads!

Just a little info for you Nate. Since you are scrounging for crew figures, go ahead and get two crewchief/gunner figures. Pretty standard for most units. Sometimes only a crewchief is used in training, but two in the back is common practice and is the standard for combat missions.

If you want to be the first at the shop to do so, arm your Hawk with M240G's instead of the M60D. The Army has finally decided that the 240 is safe to use as an aircraft weapon system. Not many are in use yet, but the are coming.

Mac-

Thanks for the tips. I'll probably just scrounge up whatever kind of pilots/crew I can, and maybe just put together some really basic infantry guys.

I still haven't had time to go browse at the hobby shop.
