UH-1E/TAT 101 help needed!!!
Posted by chopperfan on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 8:18 AM
Okay guys. Show me what you got!!
I know that there are enough Marines and helo nuts out there to help me with my dilemma.
I have been searching for good pictures of a UH-1E with the TAT 101 turret mounted on it. I have found a couple of pictures but they are long distance shots and are not very helpful.
I have one picture of the turret on the Bell 207 Sioux Scout but, it too is not real good. Better than the ones of the Huey mount, but I can't make out much of the detail.
It appears to me that there would have to be some way of ejecting the spent casings and my pic does not show that kind of detail.
Anyway, that is what I need help with. I think it would be a fairly simple conversion/add-on, I would just like to get it as accurate as possible.
Thanks guys. I know one of you all will come through for me. I hope.

Randie,

Go to www.scarface-usmc.org. The HML-367 association has a great number of detail shots of their E model Hueys. Some really good stuff there.

Also, vhfcn.org has a few other Marine HML sites on their unit links page.

Have you tried Squadron Signal's "HUEY" book? If I remember correctly, there's a close up picture of the TAT-101 turret. I'd confirm it and give you the page number, but I can't find my copy.

I have that pic, Carl. It's a start, i just need a few more for measurements and details.
Thanks to all who have replied. You've all been a big help.

Found my copy of "HUEY"!Big Smile [:D] I thought it had more pictures of the TAT-101, not just the one.

Chopperfan...at least you do have a start. Any more luck?

I have found a couple more sites but, haven't had a chance to look them over real good yet.
They do look promising, though.
The deminsions shouldn't be a problem if I can find a good clear frontal or side view. I can take the known deminsions of the Huey, scale it to the picture and then figure the deminsions of the turret. Then it will be a matter of finding the all elusive detail pic. But, I think that I may be able to find it on one of the sites I found. (keeping fingers crossed)
Thanks again to everyone. Thumbs Up [tup] Is this site great, or what?

Here are some UH-1E ordnance pictures. Sorry I can't credit the sources. Some off the net, some from the flight manual. Try www.popasmoke.com.
If you have others please post them. Love to see the Soiux Scout pictures.

And Supercobra? The line drawing from the FM is just what the doctor ordered for figuring out the measurements!!! Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]
