Attack Helo GB???
Posted by Cobrahistorian on Thursday, October 21, 2004 10:13 AM
Hey all,

Ok, since everyone's talking about the Little Bird kit (I have yet to get one Angry [:(!] ) and there have been numerous questions about the Apache and Cobra lately, can we expand the Little Bird GB to any Attack Helo?

I've got a bunch just waiting to be started (not to mention the F model Cobra and 2 Apaches waiting to be finished!) and would love to see what everyone else is working on.

Count me in, Jon! I have plenty to choose from as well. You can definitely count on a Little Bird from me and a few others TBD.

Cheers,

As long as the finish date is after March of next year you can count me in

dang.. i was thinking about starting a 'Night Stalkers' group build when I get my Little Bird. But i guess it's too late.
but here's an idea: I think this GB should be expanded to include Night Stalkers' special operations choppers. but only those. and the attack HELOS. I'm in!! When do we start?Big Smile [:D]Cool [8D]

I'm thinking we make this a New Years thing. Maybe start 1 January and finish 1 March? Next semester's gonna be a breeze for me, so I'll have plenty of time to build. Nightstalkers birds are certainly welcome, since they all have some attack capability!

Speaking of which, does anyone know if there's a kit of the indigenous Japanese attack helo made by Kawasaki? That's a neat looking bird.

Now... what to build???

I is possible to consider a start date around Dec. 20th? Because that's when my Christmas break starts, and I'll have time to build. I can't really build much during school.Sad [:(]

I'm in.
I'm going to finally do the 1/32 Revell Apache accurization project for a hopeful FSM article. I've got the article written, just need to take the step-by-step photos, which this will let me do.

So, 1 January to 1 March? Is that enough time? I'm on break as of 20 December too, but I'll be in NY for a few weeks relaxing. Lets plan on beginning on or about 1 Jan. Start the year off right... with GUNSHIPS!

I've never done a GB before. We covering all the bases here?

If you're really gonna start on Jan.1st, then i might have to drop out of the build. Because my parents really don't like me doing models right after a two-week vacation, when i could have done something. too bad.

Balta,

I'd be happy to offer whatever advice I can. I've already got one Revell kit done with all of the mods. Looks pretty good. This build is going to go quite a bit slower though and I'm gonna photograph everything.

Jay, you've got a 3 month window to work with, so you don't have to start immediately on 1 January. Hope you can still do it.

Between finishing my book and my dissertation, I'm going to be taking a well deserved break on 20 December!

I just bought a MRC/Academy AH-1T+ Gold Cobra, a Two Bobs "Whiskey's in the mix" decal sheet, a Cobra Company NTS resin cockpit update set, and Eduard photoetched detail sets (interior, exterior, armament, and mask). Sorry Jon, but I can't put this one off until Jan 1. Dinner [dinner]
P.S. Anyone wondering where my Army stipend went? Propeller [8-]

Hello all. I would like to join you men, Read all your posts daily, and i would like to join this group build. What's involved and how do i join in. I would be building a MRC Cobra w/ tow bobs decals and Cobras Co's AH-1W (NTS) resin update set. One more thing i'd like to ask is, what is the NTS modification.

Hummmmm..........I really want to throw my hat in, too. I've got 6 kits on the bench right now in various stages of construction ( I should take the MH-47 refuelling probe off of the Sherman!!) I might be able to clear some room by Jan so I can work on the Mono Apache. I'll be in touch.- Calvin

Hi All,

This sounds great. Since I returned to modelling a couple of years ago, I started out with helicopters, but Hasegawa's 1/48 Apache with an Eduards PE set remains unstarted on the bench. I've since been drawn to the Dark Side (armor!) and am finishing up a couple of tanks. This would give me a great excuse to get that Apache done. What are the start and end dates? Between work and kids, my modelling time is fairly limited. Any chance of a Dec. 20 start (to take advantage of holidays) and something like a May 1 finish for about 4 months working time?

Let me know - sounds like fun.

I'd say if it has a fixed gun or rocket pods attached, it qualifies That leaves a lot of room considering in addition to dedicated attack helos, you could use transport/assault and scout helos that have been converted for gunship/attack duty (ACH-47, OH-58D, MH-60 DAP, Loaches with a minigun, etc).

Ok, so, basically any helicopter that was purpose-built or pressed into service as an aerial fire support platform. Any scale, any era. Aftermarket stuff is welcome and encouraged.
We'll start on or about 1 Jan and it will end on 1 May. Sound good?

Lets get a list going of who will participate and with what.

How's that for a badge? I'm not sure how to shrink it down, but that's the prototype I came up with at 3AM. Glad to see you're gonna do it Jay! Start early if you need to, but have fun!

Jon,
You wrote: Ok, so, basically any helicopter that was purpose-built or pressed into service as an aerial fire support platform. Any scale, any era. Aftermarket stuff is welcome and encouraged.
What about wannabe's?
I mean James and Felix pressed the CG HH65A into a aerial fire support platform.
I guess I'm looking at a woulda/coulda/shoulda type build, I had the idea in the early 90's for the ZERO TOLERENCE missions . . .

Don
I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.
