160th SOAR Littlebirds (and all 160 SOAR Birds) are painted flat black, MM Aircraft Interior Black is the best color to use. The black quickly fades, so a drybrushing of a really dark gray to give it the faded look is also in order. For markings, all they usually wear are United States Army on both sides of the tail boom, 5 digit # in the sail, and last 3 digits of the five on the sides of the tail (rudder), and on the nose. I have also seen them with the words "NO FEAR" in script on the nose as well. The above markings are either in a glossy black or a dark green.

Hope that helps, but the OD green with black racing stripes sounds cool too!!!

yep, that pretty much covers it. How does the Tamiya NATO Black(XF-69) compare with the MM aircraft interior black? is it lighter? is it a good substitute for Interior Black? What about gunze's tire black(H77)?

I've used XF-69 NATO Black on rotor blades of different scales and I've been very happy with the results. I haven't tried it yet as an overall color.

I saw a Little Bird on TV today flying in broad daylight thru one of those mock towns they use for training and it was very black. MM Interior Black works well due to the scaleing of the colors.

Sorry, can'y help with paint comparison. I use Testors Model Master enamels exclusively. But, any flat black should work, spray it with more dullcoat to get it totally flat with no shine at all.

Picture's of the little bird are hard to find and most I've found are not of good quality and hard to tell the color.
I do have 1 picture of a little bird in helo drab paint with no national markings.
So either color would be good to use.
