IMEX Apache progress...
Hey all,
Well, I'm working on my IMEX Longbow Apache again. I don't have pics yet, since my girlfriend took the digital camera to Dallas, but I should be able to post a few in 2 weeks.
In the meantime, I've scratchbuilt a new rear control panel using photos of a current Block III AH-64D. I've realized a bit of variation between Block I and Block III control panels... interesting stuff. There are more analog instruments on the Block III control panel. Guess they were concerned about electrical power loss.
I've also cut holes in the nacelles and fashioned the low airspeed probe arms out of copper tubing, something the kit doesn't include. And finally, I've laminated sheet styrene and have started sanding to shape, so I can have accurate avionics bay ends. Next step will be adding all of the wire strike braces and cable cutters.
Once that's done, I'm going to use some of the techniques in Graeme Davidson's article in this month's issue of FSM to do the TADS/PNVS turret optics effectively.
Then its on to painting!
I think I'm going to do this one as a 3rd ID bird that flew against An Nasiriyah in 2003. Paint scheme is pretty simple, but it has one heck of a sharkmouth!
Stay tuned for more updates!
