1/35 AH-1Z Conversion
Posted by Cobrahistorian on Monday, November 29, 2004 12:21 AM
Anyone seen this resin conversion up on ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5938544977&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT

I've got the high bid on it right now. Not too sure about the tail rotor not being included, but I figure I can fudge that. It looks pretty straightforward, although I'm a little worried about the flat exhausts and the lack of external detail on them. Otherwise, it looks pretty good. The sensor turret will need some drilling out, but that should be fun.

Any thoughts anyone?

Funny, I was just thinking about this the other day. I forget where I saw it, but someone displayed a Z model they had converted by casting new parts. I bet it's the same guy. Not to put it down... It looks like a good effort, but it did look a little lacking in detail. But it will do if you really want to make one. I would like to make one myself eventually.

Somebody posted a new shot of one of the eval ships recently.

The side chaff dispenser is a lot more integrated now.

Jon,
Here's a link to a build up of the Zulu using that conversion set.

Long-ass link! Whistling [:-^]

I saw this a while back over at HeliKit News. It looks pretty good. Glad the guy saw reality though. He originally put the set up on Ebay starting at $50, and got no bids, go figure.

Yep, he's been bringing the price down steadily. Still had a "Buy it now" for $35, but I'd pay $19 for it, which was the opening bid. Of course, I just realized that he doesn't have the control panels for it. Gonna have to get an NTS upgrade from Chris and cannibalize it!

I bought the first one he sold. Mine has the tail rotors in it. I plan on fleshing it out and doing a correct cockpit for it in the coming year. I also will engineer it differently, as it is it's very heavy. It's usable and the shapes and dimensions are good but be prepared for some basic modeling work.

Chris,
Am I reading this correctly, that Cobra Company will be offering this up as a set in the future?

Chris
Any chance of doing an update for the N model to a Y model(UH-1)?

Depends, Charles said he was going to work on that next. If his work is as close as the Z is I'll be able to do something with it.
