None of the pictures in the three links Philp provided showed how dirty they would get during evacs. depending on where you are lifting from, and situation of the crew, the guns could easily become covered in mud, the triger held mud nicely. This is saying if a soldier just lifted is using the gun. That happened alot when we flew medevacs. That's my word on it, no pictures though, sorry.

There are more photos on the 174th Web site but you would have to search through it. Most "free" 60's used a bungy cord or strap to hang the gun in the doorway. The "pole" was sometimes used as a "stop" to prevent accidental shooting up of the main door post behind the pilot.

Clear Left!

Best picture's I've seen are in the Squadron book "UH-1 In Action" Most gunships used free 60's, with or without butt piece.

Hi gang.I'm new to helo's & I'm starting with Academy's UH-1c "heavy hog".I'd like to build it with a "pole & sling" mounted M-60,like I seem to remember seeing on one at an air museum I visited years ago.The kit only comes with the gun to put with 1 of the crew,so I'll have to fab it.Any help will be greatly appreciated. Semper fi.
