thanks for the insights, is the Revell kit still in production? i don't remember ever seeing it..

Completely different kits. The Revell MH-60K (actually, it's boxed as an MH-60L) is a modified version of Italeri's MH-60G USAF Pave Hawk. It has the bits to build both an MH-60L and MH-60K (though there is no mention of the K parts or how to use them in the instructions). Academy/Minicraft's MH-60K is a modified reissue of their UH-60L Black Hawk kit. IMHO, the Revell/Italeri kit is much better than the Academy/Minicraft kit. Any one way about it, you'll have to kitbash any of the above, plus use a Cobra Co update/conversion to get an accurate SOF H-60.

are the Minicraft/Academy/Revell 1/48 MH-60K kits all the same thing just in different packages? or are they all different molds?
