I agree.
But the amount of red tape was unbelievable!
The vessels I was on had to: 1 Ask permission of District. . .then wait while District bumped up to Area, Area to the main puzzle palace (DC) the occupants of which may or may not deem it necessary to even ask anyone else. . .and that was to load the main gun!!
You can imagine if the ship wanted to actually fire a warning shot!

Got me on that one, didn't read it close enough. The CG should have been able to do that years ago.

That was tongue in cheek John!
I meant a Helicopter actually fired upon a "civilian" gofast in order to make him stop.
Do you realize the red tape that was erased/ignored/changed for that to happen?
"Stand by" is no longer the operative words, the CG aviation community can now operate at 120 knots instead of the usual 12. To me that is awesome!

Just read where a Coast Guard Helicopter (MH-68) "Fired a shot over the bow" of a gofast boat to make her heave to. . .Oh to be back in aviation again!
Of course the gofast and the partner "fishing boat" were hauling 2.4 tons of cocaine. Boardings were accomplished by crews from the USCGC Rush.
