UH-60 units and aircraft in Grenada, OP Urgent Fury?
Posted by HeavyArty on Sunday, January 23, 2005 3:29 PM
I am researching for a dio on Urgent Fury. I'm wondering if anyone (CobraHistorian?) can tell me which UH-60 units and what aircraft took part?

Here is my idea:
I am planning on building the 1/35 MRC/Academy UH-60A as an early model with early exhaust from the new Cobra Company set as a Grenada bird.
CC exhaust:

Also gonna put some figures in it, figure question is in that forum.

Thanks.

Gino,
I have a book I think the title is Urgent Fury. I could dig it out and try and find out. But those birds were most likely from the 82nd or 101st Airborne I don't recall which division participated in the invasion. But it was one of them.

I know that 82nd ABN was the Army force, along with 1/75th Rangers. I am looking for any names or special markings on the aircraft, or aircraft numbers. If you can find any, please let me now.

Thanks

Gino,Long time since I talked to you.I've moved and got a new job so modeling kinda  got pushed back.I still am working on the blackhawk down dio.I served with the 82d aviation brigade during the 80's.My unit was the unit that deployed to grenada.(I just missed it by 2 years). The hawks that went down were from A Co,and B Co.82d combat aviation battalion.B Co. had a caveman on their cowlings painted totally black.I'll look in my picture albums when I can and post the pic.

Do I know something about that figures? Wink [;)]

I have a book about the 82nd at home. I'll see if I can find something useful.

Gino, I also remember that all the 82d UH-60's had the 82d insignia on the nose of the aircraft. It's color was black as well.A Co's Call Sign was the Redhawks with the stencil of a hawk(bird) on their cowlings.I remember alot of the aircraft I worked on had flown in Grenada, but I can only remember a couple of the tail numbers.Tail Numbers 23325,23327 and 23309.They were basic 60's with no wire strike cutters, and yes no HIRSS exhaust. That came in 1987.Hope this helps a little until I can find those pictures.Good luck and show us in progress pics! Also all Grenada aircraft had no ESSS wing stubs.Just slick walls.

Gino, Got your pics..Can't wait to use them on my DAP.I've posted the picture of an aircraft from the 82d.This was tail # 23327.If you look close, you can see the 82d insignia on the nose of the bird. All UH-60's assigned to the 82d CAB had this.On the side of the engine cowling you can barely make out the caveman of  B Co.This was on both sides of the UH-60.If you can't see it,Let me know and I'll draw a picture of the caveman the best I can remember. Also in the book,I 've got on the grenada conflict, their are 2 pictures of blackhawks that I thought you might like to use for a dio idea.If you need any more help, call me.The aircrew uniforms during the operation were standard 1 piece flight suits with the "chickenplate"armor over that.(DML chopper figures have this armor on their figures).Over the armor were SRU-21P survival vests with the 6 pocket fronts.Got a picture of that if you need it.Thanks again!Good luck on the dio.Post us some pics when you can.I'm getting ready to post some pics of a 1/35 scale hawk I built a couple of years ago.Hope it compares to your DAP.

Pic looks good, thanks.  Can't really make out the Caveman though.  A drawing would be great.  If you can remember how A Co Redhawk looked, a drawing of that would be great too.  If you could also scan the pics from the book, that would be awesome.  No need for the flight suits and vest pics, I have those already.  Would love to see your Hawk as well.  Hope you find the pics.

Hope you had fun at the show.  The Trumpeter Hook is a great kit.  Few minor issues with it, but nothing that can't be fixed.  Check out the threads on it here and you will see how to correct it if you like.  As to making an MH-47 from it, not recommended.  It is an A model, The MH is based on the D model.  It is a much different aircraft.  Better to wait on the Trump D model expected out this summer.

For posting pics, it is pretty easy.  All you have to do is copy the url from your pic's properties at the host site.  Next, put the following code, [ i mg][/  i mg], but without spaces, and place your pic url in the middle of it, like this:  [ i mg] place url here [ / im g].

Without any spaces gives you the picture.

However, yours won't work because Image Shack doesn't allow direct linking.  A better site is Photbucket.

Glad you brought this topic back up. I had completely forgotten ... Blush [:I]

I reget that looking through the book I found nothing that can help you. Sorry.

Reagarding your statement about Imageshack last time I checked direct linking worked ... let's try with my pretty face:

Seems to work!

Thanks Avus.  I guess Image Shack does allow direct linking.  No idea why your pic doesn't work then Hawkwrench.
