Trumpeter 1/35 CH-47 Chinook! (Now with 2 pix)
Posted by J-Hulk on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 9:14 AM
This month's Model Graphix is a Trumpeter special, and one of the articles features some test shots of a 1/35 Ch-47 Chinook!
Is this a kit that has been announced previously? I can't recall.
No info on a release date was mentioned.

Maybe Trumpeter decided to pick up the ball Panda dropped!

Here's the pix I promised (see posts below):

We found the info already. Consensus is that yes, this is the Academy come Panda molds, reworked and improved by Trumpeter. Check this thread, near the bottom. http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=33462

Projected release date of Sep '05. Would love to see the test shots, any chance you could scan them?

Ah well, I thought I had a happy scoop for ya'll! Didn't see that other tread (I checked, too!).
I'll scan and get 'em up as soon as I can. Nothing spectacular; just a taped-together fuselage sitting on a desk, and another shot of Trumpeter Chief Engineer Wang holding it. Looks pretty big!

Do chinooks carry miniguns?

I've played a computer game where they do... but games are rarely accurate.

MH-47, Spec Ops birds can. Also, in Vietnam, ther was the armed Guns-a-Go-Go Chinooks that were armed to the teeth.

I believe OldHooker, see posts above, was on the crew of this bird, Birth Control.

Right you are.... but spent more time on "Easy Money" than the rest. During their testing phase, the Army tested a Minigun configuration, but opted for the 19 shot FFAR pod instead, for Stand-Off purposes.

There were five .50cal's, each with back-up M-60's. The .50 was preferred because it offered better penetration (Sir Charles couldn't hide behind the tree's) Wink [;)], but had a tendacy to jam-up if it got too hot. In it's latest configuration, the FE mounted twin 60's through the cargo hatch of "Easy Money" pointing down and slightly aft.... he would fire these as we passed over a target because that's when She was most vulnerable.

...for more specific Guns A Go-Go references, check here:Smile [:)]

Frank

Then I've done my job!
Always glad to be of service!

It seems these pix have made their way over to Armorama as well.
It appears that my "scoop" has been happier than I imagined!

Thats no biggie......I saw a guy do that to the 1/48th Sea Knight
Should be much easier for a 1/35 Hook.

While I can see the obvious possibility of a Panda connection (with the previously announced 1/35 CH-47 Chinook), what's the Academy connection? Had Academy announced a 1/35 Chinook as well?

Old Hooker has pics of the test molds that MRC did a few years back. They had the design almost to the steel mold at one time then dropped the ball.

He can tell you more than I.

How stupid was that?.......but then again...More people are willing to buy larger kits today than lets say 5 to 10 years ago.

Soooooo.........I wonder if most of the detail is actually MRC? in a way I hope so....for accuracy anyway.

Plus a few threads ago........our good friend from Cobra has more or less already stated some truth to the theory of the MRC, Panda, Trumpeter ......journey of our 1/35 hook.

Hope that helps.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!! YES!!!!! YES!!!! [:0] WAM..... CRASH .... Sorry I think I just passed out but I'm ok now.Wink [;)] To many emotions came out at ouce. After seeing those Beautiful photos of that good man holding the prototype fuselage of the 1/35 Chinook was the most beautiful thing I've seen in a long time!!Big Smile [:D] This thing is gonna be ONE HOT SELLERTongue [:P] Sept,05 is gonna be one great month for us allTongue [:P] They say it is the CH-47A but if you look closely at the rear rotor pylon you can see that it has the blocked off rear edge of the B and newer models instead of the sharp tappered edge of the A model. I also noticed that on the front edge of the rear rotor pylon it also has the opening of the D and newer models. OH!! and check out the strakes on the fuselage at the lower back!! They started putting those on the B models and are standerd on all hooks now! So it looks like they are going to make the hole Chinook model family!!!Big Smile [:D] Looks like i need to start saveing my scrach and clearing some LARGE space for all my Hooks LZ's !!! Thanks for those photos and God speed to us Hook fans!!!Bow [bow]

I am not a chinook expert, but how many extra parts would they need to include in one kit so you could build a Vietnam-era through modern-era Chinook? Not like they would do that, because it would be much more lucrative for them to release several different-boxed kits Grumpy [|(]
Would be very cool if they included the options for the ACH-47 Gunship!!

Yo! AH-1WSnake!! I think I can help you out!! Lets say the kit is of the CH-47D, you would need to delete the strakes on the fuel sponsons and rear ramp,Change the front and rear portion of the aft rotor pylon. The back of it will be blocked off ,so you will need to file it down so it has a sharp tappered edge and just fill and sand the opening of the front portion of rear rotor pylon. the currant Hooks have wider rotor blades so narrow them down a bit.Use only the center tow hook. The screens on the front of the engines on the A's are differant and you can delete them all together because some A's didn't have them installed. Check out the CH-47 Chinook in action book by Squadron. It has detaled photos of the ACH-47 and CH-47 A,B,C,and D models. I hope i've been of some help!Wink [;)]

I see that they havn't forgot the heater exhaust port.....at least I think thats what I see?

I sure hope they open the crew door up and 'if' they offer photo etch parts I hope they offer details for the area and door details.

Man is this going to be cool or what!!? Big Smile [:D]
