Thanks for your input guys. The only reason I went for a 1/72 scale kit this time is becasue it's my first model in quite some time so I didn't want to run before I could walk. That said it would've been easier to get a more expensive and detailed kit.........life is full of little ironies like that I guess!

I have just bought a couple of other kits but still have time to cancel the order if they are no good, so if anyone knows please could you let me know the overall quality/finish. And they are:

1/72 Italeri HH-53C Jolly Green Giant
1/72 Italeri RAH-66 Comanche

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Dan,

There are tons of great helo kits out there. I'm not too sure about 72nd scale, but I'm sure others in the forum could fill you in. If you're willing to go larger, there are some outstanding 48th and 32nd/35th scale kits out there. The most popular seem to be the MRC/Academy H-60 series, followed closely by the DML AH/MH-6. Both outstanding kits.

Hi Dan,
If the Academy 500D-kit is the same moulds as the Italeri-one, I'm affraid you're right on the fit-problems on that one. In the end it looks ok but it requires a lot of work. Interesting fact: the Italeri 500D-kit is the same as the 500D released by Tamiya!!
It's hard to say all kits of one manufacturer are better than ones from the other. Revell in my opinion has some good kits, but they also happen to sell the worst 1:72 Huey-kit ever made. The problem is there is a lot of mould-sharing between kit-manufacturers: that way you'll find exactly the same kit in different boxes.
Two kits I recently made and that I'm reasonably content about (I am one of those rare lazy modellers and hate filling up seams): the Airfix (also released by Heller) 1:72 Puma SA330 and the Italeri (also released by Esci) 1:72 UH1D.
Best advice I have read on this forum: if you're about to buy a kit and have doubts about its quality: post your question on this forum and use other modellers' experiences!

Hope this is of any help,
Good luck! Gertjan

Good helicopter kits??

Hi folks,

As Tamiya don't seem to make helo kits anymore can anyone recommend a good kit manufacturer. By 'good' I mean good quality injection moulded kits. I bough a few Acedemy 1/72 Hughes 500D kits of different variants and the quality is shockingly bad. Maybe I'm expecting toomuch from a 1/72nd scale kit but there are appaling fit problems with the fueslelage and most windows don't fit and leave huge gaps everywhere. I am a novice kit builder so am looking for a high quality kit that will go together with minimal fuss but also has good detail as well. Thanks all.
