Posted by Papa-Echo-64 on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 11:12 PM
Hi gang!

I found this photo etch and 'resin'? set on ebay and I got it!....its by a company from China called VOYAGER? ...never heard of it before now.

I'm no pro when it comes to the 'newer' birds so is all this stuff mostly 'modern' armor plating?.....what iz all this stuff?

UPDATE! It just hit me that most of the 'stuff' in the pic iz tape holding the kit togther.....hmmmmm.

PHEW! I wuz starting to woory there ......

At another glance it started to look like the intakes were just 'super sculpy' copies of a mesh screen on the intakes but I found an actual VOYAGER site and this page offers big BLOW UPS of the same shots in the above post.

Some pretty nifty stuff here......The wipers look pretty good and there seems to be some landing strut details!

What iz your opinion on this set so far?

I would post a link to 'Voyager' but this is the ONLY helo and aircraft kit they have so far....the rest is all WWII tank stuff.

Hmmm. Can't say I'm overly impressed, but that is just my opinion. About the only thing that looks good are the windscreen wipers and the intake covers.....otherwise, I just don't see much else that is worthwhile.
This set is for the latest release of the -46E in 1/48th, right? I was under the impression that it was supposed to come with all the additional armor plates and such?? Besides, stuff like the door and engine armor plates would not be hard to scratch build out of thin styrene sheet anyways.
Now, if this set was including a new cockpit panel, seats, radio compartment, interior cabin detail, machine guns, IR jammers, antennas, etc, etc, I'd be impressed. Not saying the kit needs those things, because I haven't seen it, but the photos above really don't do a whole lot for me.My 2 cents [2c]

There is a little more to the set but with shipping my price was only 18.00 bucks so thats not bad.

The landing gear strut detail is what intrest me the most. Wipers too.

I will post better pics and give a review when I get it.

I agree with AH1WSnake...I expected a bit more, but for $18...I guess it's not too bad. The intake baskets, struts, and windshield wipers aren't bad. If they had the ALQs and ALE buckets, that would make it a bit better. Modifying the XM-218 would also be a plus compared to the one in the kit.

XM-218 .....huh....was dat?

The armor is much thinner than the parts in the kit I would assume and with some rivits or detail?

With Chris's Cobra parts, Eduards PE kit and this set I hope to build a really cool bird!

NOTE:

This would be the fisrt time I will build a 'current' - 'in use' military ANYTHING! model kit

Sorry about the nomen...the XM-218 is the .50 cal used on USMC helos (46E, 53D/E, and Hueys).

Using all the AM parts will definitely make an awesome looking Battle Phrog. Have fun!

Semper Fi!

Just one more thing...the 53Es currently use a new .50 cal for the ramp mounted MG...the M3M made by FN.
