Cargo floor rollers

The rollers are not flush with the deck, they stick up a bit to allow palletized cargo to move freely. They are at a set level (from what I remember). Same with the CH-53s.

There is gray non-skid on the deck as well.

In the past what I have used for those non-skid surfaces are those thin plastic sanding films from Testors.....perfect!

So far the Iraq Sea Knights dark grey or black will do?

I'm not sure what you mean.....If the rollers are stationary how do they work ......if they are not at least an 1/2 inch above the floor surface?

I've used fine grit sandpaper in the past for non-skid. When freshly applied, the non-skid is kind of a medium gray, then over time with use, it becomes a dark gray...almost looking black. I'd go with a dark gray.

Excuse me for not already knowing...but have you done time in these birds?

Spent a bit of time in them on my first deployment and even started the aircrew syllabus, but didn't finish due to OEF. I guess that's not too bad for a supply guy. I spent some time with them again during my second deployment during OIF I.

It's nice to be home and since I've gotten off Active Duty, I do the "Weekend Warrior" thing.

The cargo rails run between the floor boards in the picture when you look at it. The cargo rails are actually screwed to the rib frame of the aircraft under the boards. the rails do stick up so that pallets slide up into the aircraft. The rollers sit inside the rails with a straight pin slide through from one side of the rail, through the middle of the roller,and then a pin (like a key or cotter key) (think of this..like those guys that use pins on thier car hoods) is inserted to hold the pin and roller in place on the other side of the rail. This allows the roller to spin freely. Our non-skid that we used is a black color. Thank you Kitbashed for the words! Always good to be back home.

Thanks for jogging my memory. The USS MIDWAY Museum has a Phrog on deck and I took a few pics of her yesterday...trying to post them for Papa-Echo to view.

The 46 that is on the USS Midway was from my squadron at HC-11 on North Island. It was the last 46 to leave us. But man do I need to go to the Midway to visit. I spent a couple hours onboard her in 1991. I would like to go over sometime soon and see the changes. Also to look at the 46, talk about bringing back memories.

HC-11 was our SAR Det on my first deployment. I re-enlisted two of my Sgts at 5000ft above the North Arabian Sea in one of their/our birds.

They'll be adding at least three more aircraft this summer to the MIDWAY; RA-5C, F/A-18, and an F9F Panther. She's got a decent deck right now, to include four helos. I recommend heading over around mid-March...they're opening up the engineering spaces (Fireroom, engineroom, etc...). My dad and I had a good time on her.
