please...a Final word on cargo floor rollers
Posted by Papa-Echo-64 on Sunday, February 13, 2005 9:35 PM
OK....I have seen some more pics of Sea Knights and those rollers sure look to be a tad below the cargo floor level.

You would think in order for them to funtion they would need to be above the floor level unless there were special designed pallets?

Help! I just want my Sea Knight to look as nifty as possible!

Troy,

I know the pics are a little misleading but rollers do stick up slightly above the track (I know from slipping on them from time to timeBig Smile [:D]). Hope this helps.

Been a long time but if I remember right and they are the same, the rollers are mounted off center in the channel. If you are hauling cargo you pull a section of rollers out and turn it upside down - then it sits above floor level.

That's exactly right. The rollers stick up slightly, less than an inch. You can just pop out the roller sections, flip them over, and then they're skid plates. They take an aweful beating. The individual rollers often get broken off. The metal rails/skid plates that they mount to often get torn. This may be more prevalent on 53's because they carry more paletized cargo, but I'm sure it happens on Phrogs too.

Supercobra,

Thanks for jogging the old brainhousing group!Big Smile [:D] I went to the USS MIDWAY and took of few photos of the Phrog they had on deck. I tripped, from time to time, on the track lip that stuck up on the outboard sides of the port and starboard tracks.
