Where can I get Australian Army Helo decals..
Posted by Chris_in_Japan on Thursday, February 17, 2005 3:17 AM
Hi guys.. Can someone name a company that makes Australian decals for the Australian defence force?.. I live in Japan, and so would need a site to order them from, or buy them direct from a member.. I tried some Aussie Decals on an F-111 a few years ago, but I found them to be too thin and brittle.. I am willing to give them another go, but would prefer some suggestions.. Also, I am interested in the colors used on the camo pattern for the Australian Army Helicopters .. Anyone have a guide?

Hi Chris, If you are chasing Australian Markings for helos etc your fairly limited. Hawkeye decals which is in the Air at the moment did make a fairly good range including Iroquois/chinook/Kiowa/Blackhawk/squirrell/Sioux I have a few sets but am yet to use them they do look good on the sheet but i can't say how well they apply to the kits. Aussie decals do make a few sheets of Blackhawk decals featuring UN markings for East Timor. I can tell you that I love Aussie decals I have used several sets for a range of Aircraft and they work great for me. However i did have a set of F-111 Aussie decals destroy them selves before my very eyes so maybe it was a particular batch. I contacted the guys from Aussie decals via Email and my new sheet was in my letter box 2 days later they are awesome guys and I highly reccomend them. hope this helps you

Thanks for the link Neil.. But I cant see anywhere that I can oder them online?

I tried ordering from Snowy Mountain models, but they say they are all out, and the Blackhawk Kiowa sheet is no longer in production.. An online store is my only option!

Try this page, it has a review of the Blackhawk /Huey/ Kiowa decal sheet. At the bottom is an email link to the guy at Aussie Decals who makes them. He may be able to help you out.

Thanks Arty,
But I tried ordering some of the Blackawk Kiowa decals from Snowy Mountain models, and was told they are out of stock, and the decal sheet is out of production.. Does anyone know where I can get them online, or does anyone have any in 1/72 that they are willing to part with for a few bucks?

I am also looking for a set in 1/35 scale aswell for a larger project I have planned!

mate go straight to www.hawkeyemodels.com .au.Steves decals are great and his service is prompt and efficient (unlike Snowy's!) You'll get them in a flash and the product is great.

Bear in mind though I found the quality of Hawkeye much better than Aussie. He screen prints so there is no carrier film whatsoever and the register is always perfect because it is computer done. Also the copyright to all his stuff is owned by the industries and the Defence Force so it has to be spot on or they don't allow it to be released.

Chris,
Saw these on Ebay. I believe they are what you are looking for.

QUOTE: Excellent 1/35 decals by Hawkeye Models of Australia.

Hawkeye Decals are now Out of Production. I only have very limited supplies of decals by this manufacturer.

This A4 size sheets provides marking for three types of Australian Army helicopters in service with the Aircraft Research and Development Unit (ARDU) based at RAAF Edinburgh near Adelaide South Australia. The aircraft are the S-70A-9 Blackhawk, UH-1D/H Iroquois (Huey) and Bell Kiowa.
