Nice work! You seem to have some info on both the OH-6's & MD 500. Please tell me, is there a big difference between the OH-6A & the MD 500? I have a Tamiya 1/72 OH-6A that I would like to build into a FAM (Mexican Air Force) MD 500. Would there be a lot of redoing panels, rotor head work, ect? Thanks - Calvin

Hey Calvin

The OH-6A is significantly different from the MD500/AH-6/MH-6, in that it has a different tail (V-tail versus the T-tail on the MD500), and a four-blade main rotor (five blades on the MD500).

There are also some other exterior and interior differences.

I suppose if you're in the mood for major conversion work, it could be done. But it sounds like a lot of work to me. Smile [:)]

I took a look at the instruction sheet ( the model itself is on it's way to Fallon) and there is a 5th rotor blade plus some other "not used on this kit" stuff. Maybe I won't have to do too much scratchbuilding after all! - Calvin

Still think it will be a pretty big scratch job. The tail is totally diferent, rotor hub is different to have 5 blades as opposed to four, cockpit is totally diferent, lots of black boxes in back, large ammo box and guns and rocket pods for AH, troop planks for MH, exhaust is also diferent.

I do believe the MH-6 littlebirds are of the type with 5 rotor blades and the T tail because these are late model OH-6's with upgraded avionics and powerplant and of course a new back end but in the end it still retains the egg shaped fusealage.

I wonder what other version Tamiya released this kit as? I will pick up some more info (Detail & Scale, In Action, ect.) before I start anything. Does anyone make a 1/72 MD-500 kit? Thanks again, Calvin
