How do you like that seasprite? I built a couple of them years ago, and must say I quite liked i! Makes a very nice kit indeed when done. I made mine in the "Big E" Scheme. Engine gray and all that!

CH (if you don't mind the abbreviation, that is...)

If you are open to it, then yes, I may indeed have to email you! My 64's been sidelined for the moment; mostly due to lack of time with other committments and because I've decided to complete at least one kit in the next month. In the last 6 mos. I've found myself skipping around other kits and not getting very far with any of them.

I'm always finding new resources for the 64 (not the least of which has been the abundant links offered in this forum---wish I visited this place months ago!!!), but I recently got my Lock On #16 for the Apache from Verlinden....great resource too!

I had a chance to hook up with a pilot from N. Carolina; they brought their D up to New England last summer and I spent a couple hours pouring over that Helo in an attempt to shoot features not available in the Verlinden publication. Don't know about everyone else, but I pay a great deal of attention towards building out the main rotor as accurately as possible; cockpit aside, I feel the level of detail/accuracy on the main rotor can make/break a model. And getting decent images of it represents one of the more difficult challenges.

Hellfire rails are done; got the plumbing and conduits installed. Landing gear's going to get overhauled and so is the tail wheel assembly--but to be honest, I'm not relishing the thought of reconstructing the struts. Bad mold design. Someone didn't do their homework on that one. Some company's got a PE set for the R/M kit (to the tune of $60), but I'm not at all sure if it's any good. Any recommendations? Looking forward to the FSM article!

Wow, Jon, good luck with the article.
It would be great to see one of our fellow rotor-head forum users get featured in the magazine! It would be a ways off.....but hopefully I could do something similar in accurizing the AH-1W.

Rob,

How's the Apache going? I'm working on two of them right now, with a third just starting. One's a conversion to Longbow standard and the others have (and will be) been intense on the accurization end, but build up into very good representations of the AH-64. I've actually written an article for FSM on accurizing this kit, just have to do the corresponding photography now and hopefully it'll get printed.

Email me if you've got any questions!

a 95% finished M1A1, just waiting on AM tracks, a 85% done SA-2, waiting to airbrush final colors and decals, and final assembly, a BMP which will be "destroyed", waiting to make it look burned, a humvee that im waiting for an AM kit on, and an AH-1W that i haven't started yet. All these are part of an Iraqi dio im doing, it will be the SA-2 site with the burned out BMP, and the hummer and M1 approaching it with the Cobra. havent started work on the diorama base yet.

Hey all!

I've been on the sidelines reading these posts for the last couple of days and enjoying it every bit of it! I realize I'm new to this forum/thread, but hell, I've got a soft spot for rotors & thought I'd finally jump in...

Recently finished the RoG '48 'Sprite....God that kit was a blob of plastic! Took some doing, but finally got the landing gear right and after redoing the rotor assemblies & adding Cobra's A/M set, it didn't turn out too bad.

• Got a 1/72 Mi-8 that I'll be doing in civilian attire (thought I'd try something other than a military version for a change),
• Revell's '32 Apache (1st time with monster kit that size!! -- just chopped off the rear wheel mount and looking to refurbish it)
• and finally...Revell's 1/72 Crane. Saw pix of Erickson's firefighting unit, and being a volly myself, couldn't resist converting that blob o' plastic too! ....man, that one's gonna cost me some sleep!

Other than that, currently on the cutting board:
Airfix 1/72 Herc (another mess...)
both 1/48 A6E & EA6B Rev kits (my uncle flew 'truders & I'm rather biased on this one)
Tam '48 Beaufigher
AM '48 TBM 1-C Avenger
1/496 Cutty Sark (no, I have no idea what I was thinking...found the kit at a Church auction for $3. Call it a charity donation!)

Thanks gentlemen for all the great stuff I've read recently! The pix I've seen here have been *awesome* & hopefully I'll be able to grace these pages with projects worthy of posting too.

...'night all...

I've just got a Panda 1/35 UH-1D, and an Academy 1/35 UH-1C which I will be cannibalising parts from for the panda kit to make a Vietnam era RAAF 9 SQN Bushranger.
The Leftover Academy bits will become a RAN UH-1C :)
Got the decals and the weapons.... except for the M-60's, now just have to decide wether I want to risk the fury of the minister for war and finace and buy the Eduard huey weapons set!!???
Cheers,
Nimrod.

P.S. Don't suppose anyone has a spare gun site from the academy kit do they?? Kit part no. Sprue G No. 18???

I've got a few on my workbench. Still pondering away at my Sea King. The Skycrane is in the waiting booth right now. Got tired of it...

My "pet project" right now is MY P-2V7 Neptune from RCAF (Late blue). Its got some bits and bobs, but I'm waiting for some more reference for it, so it is in the penalty box with the "checkerbird" starfighter.Big Smile [:D]

Wessex needs his exausts and will be done then. My "Nighthawk" (USAF HH-60D from Hasegawa) is getting the last "splotch of camouflage now, although I think the colors are too dark (following the instructions).

Two Italeri S-55s (H-19A and B) one Royal Canadian Navy and one USAF. An italeri CH-146 Griffon for Canadian Armed Forces. Have two more Sea Kings, one will be the CH124 and on the CH-124A for Canadian Forces, (old and new) with some really good extras from Belcherbits, including decals!!

I want to start my UH-60A (1/35) and have all the PE from Eduard for it, but I think I will restrain myself for a little longer!Big Smile [:D]

ScreaminHelo,I think I'm going with your advise.I want some crumpled metel around the left front as well as the hawk sitting on its left front side. The best ay I think from all of the posts would be to alter the model and carve a small wedge out of the base to rest the helicopter in.If you got any pics from Iraq ,post em ,I'd like to see your bird you crewed.Any special markings would be cool to see!

I've almost finished rebuilding a Blue Thunder model I got in a auction of model stuff. I was missing a few parts so I have to kit bash and scratchbuild here and there, but the average person most likely will not notice. Next up will be the Airwolf that came from the same auction.

The Hawks are fine over there. You can imagine how much fun the sand is, it makes tracing leaks on the deck alot of fun but it is more of a problem for my eyes than it is for my airplane. Did you figure out how you are going to crash your 60 for the dio yet?

Gino,
I will send the pics tomorrow, don't have them with my right now.

ScreaminHelo, I've started on a blackhawk down dio about a month ago.Man those figures take a long time to build.(10 of them in the dio in all).Just bought a DAP at a contest this month. That's next after the dio.Would like to build a UH-60Q Medevac in 1/35th scale. So how are the 60's flying over there in Iraq?I sure miss clearing the "P" and calling "droops" out!The Blackhawk will ALWAYS! be the best ride the army has to offer.(Sorry Apache guys ,but as you can tell I'm a little biased). From one hawk vet to another ,THANK YOU for covering our backs back home.Hawks rule and skidz are for kidz!! -hawkwrench-

Well, I am still doing my 1/35 Japanese modern Iraq dio with what if AH-1W.. And I have a half built F-15J Agressor waiting to be completed and put with my Japanese modern jet collection. Then I have the Mitsubishi F-1, that also has to be completed and put with my modern Japanese jet fleet..

Then I still have to finish my Australian Tigre dio with 3 Tigre's and 2 KIOWAS (only one KIOWA is actually built).. And then will be getting a Black hawk tomorrow to join it.. Then I still have a half built 1/600 IJN Japanese Battleship Yamato sitting waiting to be completed.. A 1/100 F-4J. And then tonight I just started my 1/72 BAe Hawk for another Australian dio...

To make things worse, I will be doing my weekly saturday visit to my local store, and with the cheap prices we have in Japan, I am sure I wont be able to help myself, and will come home with no less than 5 new kits... I have issues!

Nothing at the moment. Trying to decide between Trump MI-24, Academy MH-60G with CC detail parts, Panda UH-1D as Vietnam era MedEvac, Academy UH-60 backdated to UH-60A using CC "A" model exhausts, DML AH-6J, etc., etc., etc. All 1/35 scale. Decisions!! Decisions!! Not sure which I will do next. Plan on starting something this weekend though. Could be an armor model as well for a break from rotors.

Wrapping up my RAH-66; I'm about 75% done with my Pave Hawk interior, I've got three Little Birds waiting next (Attack Helo GB) and two A-10s (Another Group Build). Got an USMC and USAF F-35B, one about halfway thru decaling and the other almost finished painting. In the pipeline I've got an AH-1G, F/A-22, MH-60L, UH-1N, MH-47, AH-64A, AH-1S and a couple of F/A-18Es

And... designing/laying out decals for LemonJello, Cobrahistorian, Salbando and myself. Not to mention the website...

Don't worry Phil you aren't alone.

Although I'm about to embark on dual projects for the first time. (what am I thinking)
Nearing the end of my 1/48 RAH-66 for the GB and I'm about to start on a 1/48 AB205 and 1/48 AH-1Z.

Have a couple of other kits in various stages of completion but for some reason or another I just haven't completed them yet. Although these were built before I learnt about filling seams, gloss coats, flat coats and future. So they have become guinea pigsBig Smile [:D]

The AH-1W, AH-64D, KA-50, F-14A, SU-27B, F-16CJ are all patiently waiting in the que.
So many models so little time

Still working on my 1/48 HH-60H for the Attack Helo Group Build. And that's all. It surprises me in reading the forum that so many people seem to be able to build multiple projects at once. I can't seem to concentrate on more than one project at a time. Am I in the minority here?

Well, I've got a trio of projects going slowly, a LVT dio and a couple of GB projects (A-10 and guntruck). Waiting on the shelves, though, I have a pair of Little Birds, a CH-46, a CH-53, another AH-1 and a V-22. Not sure what I'll start on next, I still have a few armor kits that I started and have yet to complete, and I'm trying to force myself to get those done before I start anything else. But I'm looking forward to all of those sitting, done, on my shelves some day.

Which one of your projects is your pet project? I am curious what everyone is working on. Some are pretty obvious but they are now finished (beautiful DAP and -53 come to mind). What is waiting in the wings?

I am still trying to find the top of my workbench since I have been home, (While I was away it became my wife's storage space for anything that she didn't know what to do with) so I will just have to wait on starting my Crane.
