AH-1W detail set
Posted by 44Mac on Saturday, March 19, 2005 7:16 AM
I was in Vienna this week and there they have alot of something we don´t have much in this neck of Austria, HOBBY SHOPS! Soooo... I went shopping, funny how my wife expects me to go in every store with her and tell her how she looks in everything she tries on but can´t understand how I can spend a half hour checking out all the decal sheets. At any rate, I found a Veriinden detail set for the 1:35 MRC Super Cobra, set number 1795. Now, I have the Italeri Kit number 381 but guessing I could make it work I bought it anyway. after examining the two together it looks like the MRC and the Italeri are the same kit, are they? Also, any "heads up" reguarding either kit? Lastly, reccommendations for a good book with alot of cockpit photos would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for any help Yáll can give, 44Mac

They are the same kit. For a book try Squadrons "AH-1 In Action" for a start

Same helo kit. It is a great kit. I have heard the Verlinden cockpit set is a pain though, sizes are off and it takes a lot of sanding and test fitting to get it to work. Good luck.

Yup, the Cobra Company stuff is great. I recommend it over the older Verlinden products.

Thanks for the word granddad and Heavy. Now, just gotta make it work. Reckon I´ll go buy some more sandpaper, and a book. And refer to my original post, I know all about test fitting. Sometimes wish I could do a bit of sanding there as well...

44Mac,

The Aerofax Datagraph on the AH-1 has some really good color interior photos of AH-1Ws from the immediate post-ODS time period. They don't have any of the current NTS-equipped birds, but the photos there are a good starting point. I'm slowly working on my Whiskey Cobra with the NTS upgrade set from Cobra Company, and it is a really nice kit.
