The main rotor blade grips went to black to denote they were grease filled instead of the original oil filled type. This was also in the 80's sometime.

I concur on the black for the cockpit, pretty much everything forward of the "B" piller behind the pilots. This was started in the early '80s when pilots started using Night Vision Goggles (NVGs). The gray and black instrument panels looked wierd in the goggles and pilots were having problems focusing, bad thing when you are flying along and can't focus.

The rotor masts also went to an overall black in late '70s to early '80s. Not sure why, but probably had to do with making them less visible and reducing glare off the bare metal parts.

I have never seen one with green interior. They have all been light gray as far as I have seen.

Hey Heavy Arty,

You know I've never noticed that detail because the blades are spinning on a lot of the color photos...but I checked a bunch of photo references and in all where the hub is painted steel, the rest of the blades including the support arms are black in color.

Thanks for your input...Hopefully i'll be ready for my next huey...

Another question about the interior of the huey...Italeri recommends the walls to be a pale green instead of gray or some darker green. What do you all think?

Thanks,

Thanks for the picture and the suggestion.

I'll have to touch up that one last detail...

The leading edges of the rotors can be silver however this is only due to wear.

Looks better, but I have to agree with Gino on the rotor blades

Looks better, but rotor blades are still off. The pieces that you have silver that are coming out onto the blade should be the same color as the blade, black. These are parts of the blade and not an added support bracket. The only area that should be silver on the blade is the round attachment piece that comes off the rotor hub and the rod that controls the pitch from the Hub to the edge of the rotor blade. The pitch rod can also be black as well. The rest should be the color of the blade, in this case, black.

Here is a good pic showing this:

Hope that helps.

Hey everyone,

A while back I posted a finished huey in which some of you commented on.
I wanted to update it now that I've repainted, correcting some mistakes.
