Completed AH-1W Photos
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, April 24, 2005 8:06 AM
Hi gang. Just wanted to share some photos of my completed Academy AH-1W. I used the Eduard interior and exterior sets to spruce it up a bit. Tamiya paints for the finish and an oil wash. Dust was added using pastel chalks. This cobra is going to be part of a Desert Storm diorama depicting it being rearmed by ground crew, with an M49 fuel tanker waiting to fuel it up. There will be a HMMV standing guard as well. Enjoy the view and thanks for taking a peek.
Chris

Chris,
Attractive paint scheme. I've always liked the three-tone late 80's scheme that was used on USMC rotary-wing aircraft.

Your Snake looks good. The weathering is noticable, but not over-powering. Thanks for sharing pics of your build. Thumbs Up [tup]

Cheers,

looks great! the weathering is right on! I was deployed with two different MEU's in the 80's and early 90's and got to see a lot of these beauties, and you weathered it realistic!

That's a nice looking snake you've got there. Can't wait to see the dio.

Hey - you stole my idea! I've been considering doing this exact thing for a long time but haven't got around to it yet. I was going to have the HMMWV pull an ordnace trailer. I take it you have the Kirin pilot and ground crew set?

Here is a picture how most DS farps were marked:

And some trailers:

and hate to even mention it because you did such a good job on your weathering and painting, but here is your aircraft #126 - it was sand and brown in DS:

Hey Supercobra! Awesome DS photos! Where were you when I needed these pics? LOL. The dio that I'm doing will not have a weapons trailer. I have the TOWs being carried by Ordies to the chopper. And yep, I have the Kirin pilots and ground crew Marines with the TOWs.
Thanks for the photos.
