Nice work ... realistic enough to give a terrorist sticky underpants. Do the cyclic and collective levers add pitch to the blades? I notice you even have the Kaman 747 rotorhead and angle-tip blades. Ya done yer homework well, Laddie ........

Cool pics Gino! Here's what my bird is up to. I couldn't get a good shot of the CPG's control panel, but I've actually built the entire TOW sight sytem too. Just need to install the rest of the cockpit now. Sadly my roommate, in a stupor one night walked into it and knocked off the muzzles of two of the cannon barrels. Gotta fix that.

I'm gonna use the leftover ALQ-144 mount from my Kiowa Warrior for this bird and should have its skids attached soon. Just have a lot of stuff to get done in the next week or so. Trying to figure out how I'm gonna get my Longbow down to Ft. Hood for the 1st Cav Museum. We'll see...

Jon,
I too converted the Revell 1/32 AH-1G to an AH-1F/S model. Here is how mine turned out.

More details here: http://www.hkngallery.org.uk/hkngallery.nsf/9e7858703c56bfb280256b960044cd7b/3cbb3775ecee693680256f1800833bb5!OpenDocument

I messed up the description a little. This is how it reads on the HKN site, "Combined parts from Academy AH-1W and Revell AH-1G to make a AH-1S. Used the cockpit area and tailboom from AH-1G with nose, sail and lower fuselage of AH-1W kit."

Should be more like this:
Combined parts from Academy AH-1W and Revell AH-1G to make a AH-1S. Used the cockpit area and tailboom from AH-1W with nose, sail and lower fuselage of AH-1W kit as well. Sail and cockpit fuselage area are from the G kit.

Canopy was scratched using clear sheet styrene and angle stock. Tail was lengthened with upper piece of G tail added to W tail, tail rotor switched to right side, bulge added for gearbox, main rotor modified with rounded, angled tips from W kit, etc., etc., etc.....

Good luck on yours. Make sure you post some pics.

Frank, I made that 'ramp" out of a scrap piece of 1/4" masonite that was just in the way around the 'place. I found some car trunk spray paint that really did look pretty close to concrete/tarmac. The tar strips are some very narrow drafting tape, oil stains are thinned enamel and rollerball pen. I masked off and sprayed some yellow stripes to break it up a lil'. I love to place the mock up tarmac on a card table and take it out to the airport. The natural background is the best!

Mac, I don't know if the Israeli's used the ALQ-144. I just used what was in the box. I can't really remember scratchbuilding anything for this kit except the grill work and those maps, but it HAS been a long time since it was done so I may have forgotten something(very likely at my age, lol). Thanks for the kind words! Gary

Super Snake! Really Straight From The Box? I can see a few small add-ons, but you must have put alot of work into the weapons. I really like the job that you did on the IR countermeasures (Isreali's use ALQ-144?).

Gary,

Wow, ok, its been a LONG time since I've built this kit, but I didn't remember the bulges both in front of the intakes and in front of the doghouse being on the Monogram kit. I'm converting a 1/32 AH-1G to F model standard right now and it has been slow going to say the least. I think you may have inspired me to jump back into it!

Uh, Jon, what updates would that be? That one is almost straight out the box. Probably a ten year old model now. I did use some lace netting(?), soaked in white glue, for the openings near the exhaust. I also made some folded maps for the cockpit; they can just be seen in the close up I believe. Gary
