Wow! I'll have to see pics of that.. I served on the Guam back in the "good old days" with 26th MEU. You could always take 2 CH-53's off, drop the UH-1's (except one USN one) and all but two of the AH-1W's and and put 6 AV-8B's on board. That's how we sailed in '89/90 just prior to Desert Storm. Or like you said about the Inchon, put minesweeping choppers on and make it the Guadalcanal from 1986 when it went into the Gulf during the Iran/Iraq war.

You might want to reference the radar array on the Guam, it was different than the rest of the LPH's. In fact it was the only one of it's type in the fleet, experimental type thing.

I'm building 0ne of each type model that we have in the Corps all in 1/48 scale. As of now I have 1 Phorg, 1 lawndart(AV-8B) and A Deathsprey(V-22). I'm working on a F-18D now, and I have a CH-53A/D from 1981 the one with the jeep and 105mm got it for $30 off ebay. Then I've got a UH-1N, OV-10, AH-1W/Z, and 1 more Phrog with a aftermarket parts.

So they took the "Greyhawks" out of the MEU rotation also? For OIF I can see why. I floated with HMM-163 (REIN) back in 2001-2002. A friend of mine was with HMM-161(REIN) for 2003 during OIF I.

Send me an email (click on my handle) I'll know the folks over at MALS-26 FWD and will probably see you over there.

Hi,

´the model will stands in an extra room. It has a lengh of nearly 255 cm. It would be remote controlled.
I need 7 Super stallions, because I want to build two as working models with rotating rotors and the others to set them on the deck and in the hangar.
Maybe, I will build the minesweeping "USS Inchon", that´s dependent on the the heli´s, I can buy. At Ebay there ist one Super stallion offered, but the seller only posts only in the USA and doesn´t answer my mails.

Perhaps someone reads this and would sell me a model

Greetings

Andreas

You are going to need 12 Ch-46e, 4 to 6 CH-53e (Shitters). 6 snakes Ah-1W, and 3 UH-1N to make it look real man.

That is what we take on a MEU. Then you have to make them all part of a HMM Squadron.
Like HMM-161 tail # YR, HMM-166 (YX), HMM-165 (YW) HMM-163 (YP), HMM-268 (YQ)

Hello,

my friend lives in the austrian mountains. He has not a lake for his own, but can transport the ship with a trailer. The model is fascinating everyone, who sees it. He has remote controlled "Phalanx" and tractors on the deck.
I want to show pics in the forum, but don´t know, how. could someone help me?

Greetings Andreas

You could put 16 CH-53E's on one ship just like the USS Kearsarge during the MEB cruise of 2003. (14 on deck, two in the hanger deck for parts) It had a whole 53E squadron, HMH-464. The Navy thought it was their boat, man they were wrong.

Remember to show lots of rust when modeling amphibious assault ships like LHA's and LHD's.

I wish I could help you find more CH-53E kits. I built one in my own squadron's markings. The kit is alright, but it leaves alot of room for improvement. Mine was actually made of parts from Italeri and Revell (same molds, different boxes)

Hello,

yes, it will be scratchbuild. I use the planset from "floating drydock", but have to design the frames , and that would be a little problem. I´m looking for more planes, esp. frames and detail photos, if someone have such materials, please contact me.

I choose 1/72, because there are a lot of good kits in this scale. The length of 255 cm is the maximum for me when transport the ship. some freind of mine have build two Tarawa´s in 1/72, so one day we could make our own fleet.
I don´t know the Enterprise model, but i´ve heard about it.
Photos of my Guam are not existing, because i´m at the beginning, but to a later point i will send some pics at this forum.

Best regards

Andreas

PS: an other friend of mine in austria builds the USS enterprise in 1/48. The model is swimming and looks very great. He has a separate hall for his model. This year he showed the model or parts of it in dortmund at the "Intermodellbau", the greatest model-show in germany. I have some pics of that model, if it´s interest for you, I try to show the pics here in the forum.

I would love to see some pics. That would be comparable to the USS Enterprise at Oshkosh wouldn't it?

Hello at all,

from Revell this model was in programm too. Revell Germany produced it with the nr. 04435. Perhaps anyone knows, where I could find this kit or would offer me the kit.

Cheers

LOL......that would be what...about the size of a pool table? Wow! Also, what type of detachment are you modeling? Seven -53s sounds like a lot of heavy haulers. I know the east coast MEUs usually only float between 4 and 6 at one time. Although, I don't know how they do it on the west coast. kik36....any thoughts?

Perhaps there is anyone, who would sell me the kits, paying is possible with Paypal. At all I need 7 models of the Super Stallion and 2 models of the Sea Dragon.

Greetings

Andreas
