UH -60 Blackhawk fast rope hook-ups
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 5, 2005 2:27 AM
I am currently working on a 1/35th scale Blackhawk for my diorama and I've been trying to find out info on where the fast rope hook-up are on the bird. Also what should I use to make the rope look the correct or close to the same scale as real fast rope?

Hi There,
Mine i made my rope from very thin thread ( 2mm thick )
I got four pieces of this size thread and plaited it all together making a nice tight rope. Then painted them a greenish color or you could even paint them black.
Hope All This Helps?

The rope hooks up to what is called a Fries rig. It is a loop on the end of a bar that extends out from the side of a a center mounted beam on the ceiling. There is one bar on each side of the aircraft, hence two rings, one each side to attach 1 rope per side to. Here are some pics.

Here's mine that I built for my MH-60L DAP:

Hope that helps.

The Fast Rope Hookup was known as the FRIES Bar when I was a crewchief at Ft. Campbell. As a matter of fact, the cable for the release handle was for a Harley Davidson, so Aviation Brigade had to make a local purchase from the Harley Shop in Clarksville.

I just want to add one more type of FRIES bar to Heavy Arty's photos.
As you can see there is a little difference between them. I am not sure for what kind of black hawks this type was designed for, but I've met it several times on pics.

The above pic posted by intruder_bass is not a Fries rig, but a Rapelling rig. It is used for attaching 4 rapel ropes to. The Fries rig is used for the Fast Ropes and has a servo at each ring to release the ring and drop the rope, which is recovered by the ground team. Would be one heck of a PT session pulling up 100 feet of 4" rope.
