Here's some stuff I found that may be of interest to the rest of you. I found it while I should have been studying PME.

Here's the instrument panel in a 1970's era CH-46D from HMM-364 (purple foxes).

Same bird showing a window mounted .50 Cal and a door mounted M-60. Also of interest is the added armor plate forward of the door.

Here's a USMC MEDEVAC team on strip alert. Not sure who the Cobra's belonged to but the Phrogs are from HMM-364.

Here's a USMC Huey (B or C...I'm not as up on the older Hueys as I should be) painted up for Christmas.

Nice pictures!

That looks to be a UH-1C or E the Marines used. Wide cord vertical fin on the tail boom, head looks wide like the 540 system and no couterbalance weights visible as on the B head. Much later a lot of B's had the C tail boom. It also has the external sand/grass screens but that is not a sure thing as an indentifier. A lot of early C's didn't have them. Neat picture! The only other paint scheme that stands out as much was the 1971 era Army Medevac's,all white with Red Cross's on vital areas! Hit a cross and either bring the ship down or hit a crewmember! Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Clear Left!

The Marine AH-1Gs in country belonged to VMO-2 and later HML-367. I think these are 367 because they painted the last half of the tail black with a diagonal line and it looks like you can see that on the far Cobra. The Huey is a UH-1E from HML-167. Marines only had UH-1Es overseas. Thanks for the pictures.

Hey guys,

Yep, I'm still here for the moment. Shipping out early Tuesday morning.

I think those are VMO-2 birds rather than Scarface ones. The G models flown by HML-367 had very distinctive cobra nose art on all of their birds. It could be soon after Scarface got em before the nose art was applied, but I'd tend to believe they were VMO-2. Either way, both units were based at Marble Mountain in I Corps.

Take care guys! See ya in a month!

Jon,
I'm going to have to stick with 367 (nothing to do with bias since I was in Scarface!). They operated Cobras for almost 18 months in theater. They had at least 25 at one time and I doubt all were painted with the Cobra mottif on the nose. I have seen many pictures showing VT aircraft without the mottif. While I've seen fewer pictures of VMO-2 AH-1Gs, most had their logo above the ammo bay and I see no indication that VMO-2 used the black tail or the white tail numbers. 367 didn't have those the entire time but they did have it. Others quadrons used the black tails (HMA-169 on AH-1Gs and HMA-269 on AH-1Js) but I haven't scene any other Vietnam squadrons in this scheme.

Good luck Jon!

This is a CH-46E not a D. The M-60 in the crew door is cool, This is the first time I have seen that. It is cool, We put M-240G on the ramp now, It a be nice to have one in the door to.
