thanks for that heavyarty, when u say OD u mean Olive drab??
The instructions tell me Revell no46, Nato-Olive, but when i hand painted the rear wheel bracket, it didnt have no difference on the plastic color of the model, which looks crap, i think.
Anyways thanks again...regards gordon j

None of the paints you listed are right. If you can't find the Model Master Helo Drab, you can mix 2 parts OD to 1 part flat black, it comes out very close to Helo Drab.

Also, check out this post about 5 down about Helo Drab color paint.

Good luck.

can someone help me a bit as ive been stuck for a decision for two days, thats why im single :) lol

I got the apache model ive been talking about, and i have 3 colors which to choose from. because the paint color in the instructions is too dark ive went on eye color.
I have tamiya acrlyics, XF-67 NATO Green, XF-13 J.A. Green, XF-58 Olive Green. Which color would most suit the apache WAH-64D Longbow? i would be greatful for advice/experience...regards Gordon J

Albymoore, my local shop had no model master paints so i couldnt get the helo drab u suggested.

just a wee update...i went to the local model shop today to try and get the color u used. they didnt have any Model Master paints. only revell enamels and tamiya arcylics. So going on sight i got XF-67 Nato green (acrylic) and XF-18 J.A green (acrylic).
the plastic models color is already a dark green and seems to be the same color lol This will be fun ... regards gordon J

thanks again albymoore...

yeah airbrushing is quite dunting at first, as u say practice with it first. i guess im just being to cautious. My son thinks ur model of the apache is really cool, so do i :) So yea thanks, now he wants it like that, which means hours/days of painting lol ;)

One last question albymoore if u dont mind. You know the glass bottle for the paint&thinner that screws into the airbrush? (ofcourse u do :)) Well can u buy extra empty bottles with lids instead of mixing up paints all the time then cleaning them out.??

My son got amodel of the USS enterprise for his xmas from his grandad (1:400) lol but were practing on the apache and an f-14. So youll see me around ;)

respect...Gordon j

I don't think Revell has an equivelent to FS34031 in their line. The Model Master Army Helo Drab is available in both enamel and acrylic.

Airbrushing is a bit intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be happy with the results. Just takes practice and experimentation to find what settings work best for you. I sat down and just played with my airbrush when I first got it for an evening just trying different patterns, air pressure settings, and paint/thinner ratios on a scrap model. Just make you're in a well ventilated area, as the fumes can be overwhelming. So read the instructions, sit down with a scrap model and have fun. Don't be discouraged if you don't get good results the first time around. With time and practice, you'll get the hang of it.

hey albymoore, thanks for ur quick reply. i take it Model Master's Army Helo Drab (FS34031) is a arcylic paint? u wouldnt happen to know revells enamel paint number and color would you? I stumbled on this myself when i was in the local stores, are arcylics better/easier to use than enamels?? Ive never used an airbrush before, and i got one a few weeks ago and im a bit wary on using it for the first time. Whats ur opinon as a good model builder...regards gordon J

Welcome aboard. Smile [:)] The color I used on the above model is Model Master's Army Helo Drab (FS34031). It is available in both their enamel and acrylic range. The only other paint available that I am aware of is Xtracolor's Helo Drab 34031. It comes in a tin (same size as a Humbrol tin) and has a glossy finish (perfect for applying decals). You would need to add a flat coat to dull the finish down. I haven't seen it so I can't comment on it's accuracy.

hi guys, im new to he forum, so hi :)
After years of being away from model building, my 10 year old son is now very keen...
Anyways, we have the Apache kit also, but AH-64D longbow version. Now from the instructions i cant see what color to paint the body. i have NATO olive (46) and black green (40), but both seem far to dark for the apache. The pic u posted up the top is great, thats the color i want. Can someone tell me what color and tin number this is please....regards gordon J

The RM Apache is not a bad kit (build is easy with only a couple of minor fit problems), but I think It's a little outdated with some of the details.

If Cobrahistorian were here right now, he'd also endorse the Hasegawa kit. I actually asked him this question about aftermarket parts right before he went to Ft. Lewis (figured this topic would come up) and he said he hadn't messed with any AM sets.

I just got the AH-64D Longbow. It's very nicely detailed.

Alby;

I agree about the seats being lacking. Are there any aftermarket replacement seats available. ALso are there any good Web resources showing the cockpit incase I want to scratch build a better one?

Thank you

The Academy kit is a decent second choice. Not as refined has Hasegawa's Apache and has nowhere the amount of detail, but still makes for a good replica and goes together fairly well.

HTH,

Alby, that's perfect, thanks!

Best AH-64 kit available?

In your opinions, what is the best 1/48 AH-64 kit available? I just finished the Revell/Monogram one for a friend and it's a dog. What about the Hasegawa, Testors and Academy versions?
