It Ain't What You Think It Is! Or Maybe It Is?

Here are some pictures of the latest helicopter project I'd just started. This is the Marquette kit in 1/72 scale. I started the interior, and then test fit it inside the two fuselage halves. The fit is atrocious! The interior is too wide so the fuselage cannot go together. I tried shaving the sides with my knife and managed to slice off a chunk of the tip of my thumb including part of the nail. It wasn't deep enough to justify running to the doctor to get it sewn back on, in fact it took a couple seconds to start bleeding. It looked worse that is was and felt worse than it should have. To paraphrase 'Top Gun', "Too close for X-acto, switching to sanding block."

Here is the interior:

The pieces all seem to be there; they've got the collectives, the control sticks, and even the pedals, etc. The parts are filled with flash, and the sprue bridges are all very thick at the attachment points. I am constantly on alert to the possibility of trimming off something that needs to remain on the part due to all the flash.

Here is the interior test fit inside the fuselage halves:

Can you tell what it is? This is the Kamov Ka 60 multi-role helicopter, according to the box and instruction sheets. It certainly looks like a direct rip-off of the French helicopter! According to the instructions, this helo can be armed, so that is what I'm going to do.

I'll keep everyone apprised of this build. Comments are welcome.

Yup, looks like a Dauphin to me. Those pesky Russians, still copying Western technology. Damn spies.

Oh brother, here we go again. One of those "mine's bigger than yours" or my dad can beat up your dad pedantic arguments. Disapprove [V]

Duke,
I look forward to seeing your build-up, I like seeing things that aren't done very often.

Cheers,

No peter contest here. Just a couple of jokesters.

I am glad Sikorsky emmigrated to the US, otherwise, all the great helos he has designed would have been Russian.

Gino,
Alrighty then, nevermind the guy behind the curtain. Went right over my head. Being only five foot, five inches tall, a lot goes over my head. Smile [:)]

Apologies to Andy for jumping the gun.

Otherwise ALL great helos would have been ONLY russian
We still have Kamov and Mil...Big Smile [:D]

albymoore,
who is the "guy behind the curtain"? Me? I have nothing to hide...Smile [:)]
I really respect US (ok, lets say NATO ) aircraft developers and those guys who fly on these great birds...
But.....
Although I live in Canada now I am still Russian, and I am very proud of our military (especially AIR FORCE) technology, witch is not so bad as they might show it on "Discovery Channel" As far as Cold War is over now and this forum is international lets try not to offend each other....
We are not so bad Wink [;)]
Sorry for this off topic guys.

Andy,
LOL, the "nevermind the man behind the curtain" is a quote from the great movie 'The Wizard Of Oz'. It was my rhetorical way of saying ignore what I said in regards to your post about the Apache/Ka-50 and the Hornet/Su-35. I didn't realize that you and Gino were making light-hearted jabs in jest.

I will agree that the Ka-50/Ka-52 is one menacing machine.

Kamov only uses coaxial rotor... it's the model company, not the pesky Russians...

Thanks for the comments guys! I appreciate learning more about this helicopter too. The Marquette instructions don't say a thing! Thanks for the link!

Andy, There's nothing wrong with being proud of your military. I love looking at Russian militay equipment. I would not mind you telling everything you know either!
