Chinook flew over my house this morning
Posted by philp on Thursday, July 14, 2005 12:55 AM
Heard this loud thumping noise and the house shook a little. Rushed out back to see a Ch-47 going over. Local Army Guard base is within 2 miles. They have Apaches and a few Blackhawks but first time I was that close to a Chinook flying.
Ran down there after work but it was no where to be seen. Must of just dropped off a load and left.
I can't wait to start my British Desert Storm bird. Need to find some PE for it though.

Kearns (Salt Lake City), UT
The guard unit usually has an open house each year. Took a bunch of pics of the Apache's and Blackhawks that I need to find and load on my site.
Can't wait to do that British night scheme (no, really).

Phil, you lucky to have attack helo's and the boring blackhawk. We in Kansas have UH 60A'sw/the 108th Aviation BN and OH58A's w/135 Aviation 35 Infantry and UH60H's w/82 Med Ft Riley. the 135th traded their UH1S's for the Kiowas several years ago. We also have Ch47D's w/a Army Reserve unit in Olathe

It is nice to live close to a military facility, especially if they host the aircraft or armor types that you are interested in making models. I live close to Scott AFB in Illinois, but all they have out there are C-21 Lear jets, a couple of old C-9 Medivac and some KC-135E tankers. They used to have an Army helo unit with UH-1 Hueys that switched to Blackhawks and then disbanded.

Darwin, you're going to want to get as many pics of the Nightingales as soon as you can. If you have access to the end of the runway or the vicinity thereof you can get some decent pics of them. The reason I'm saying this is because the C-9 is on its way out of the service and their days are definately numbered. I read somewhere that they would be gone by the middle of 06.

Had a Michigan National Guard UH-1H fly by on Wednesday. It was a nice site to see, seeing as the Huey in Army NG service is becoming a rarity itself.

Depending on where you are in the Northern LP, I'm going to guess that was one of the two OH ARNG UH-1s that were at the Alpena CRTC this past week... Not that I saw, sat in, or shot the breeze with the crewmembers at all....

(Ah, the benefits of being on the military side of the airfield..)

Ah, thank you for the clarification. I am located on the west side of the Northern LP. They were headed north/northwest (towards Pellston) when they went by. I'm about an hour and a half west of the CRTC, in fact I make food deliveries to the main mess hall every once in a while.

Thanks again for the info on where the Hueys were from.

Cheers,
