1/48th CH-53E by Academy/MRC coming
Posted by AH1Wsnake on Monday, July 25, 2005 10:22 PM
I have heard that following on the heels of the CH-46E success, Academy will be releasing a brand-new Super Stallion scheduled for the middle of next year. Supposed to have options for folding rotors, as well as a detailed cabin similar to the -46. Saw the info on another forum, and thought I'd post it here to share the good newsSmile [:)]

I need to start saving up my pennies now, so that I can be the first kid on my block to get the new -53E! And if Academy decides to do a new -47 in 1/48, well, who am I to argue? (Do you think they'll get the hint?)

Hi Lemon. With the CH-46 BullFrog in the hobby shops and the Super Stallion on the harizon I'm sure a nice 1/48 Hook should be in the near future for us helo lovers. Wink [;)]Smile [:)]

Yes Yes Yes! I'm so happy to here this news. I wonder what markings they'll include. I think It would be proper to include HMH-464 Squadron markings.

I'll look forward to that, Chris. Hope they include a full armament, ECM goodies, and NOT decals for the training squadron (like they did with the AH-1W). I think a set of 1 east coast (464 of course) and 1 west coast markings would be fair, but I'm sure this long-awaited model will inspire tons of aftermarket stuff. (hopefully!)
I'm also thinking the cabin area will just look too empty if the rear ramp is down, so maybe I'll have to scratchbuild a pallet or two of cargo.......hmmmmm....too many possibilities, lol.

I don't know if the ramp/cabin would look empty if they modeled the new GAL ramp guns (they're souped up 50 cals). Or I'll find some 1/48 scale grunts to run out of it.

Which is why I plan on taking full advantage of building it in the blade-folded configuration!

If you do it blades folded, then you have to have a broken hydraulic line and fluid all over the place.... We never go to fold a plane without an airframer standing by with blade fold flex lines.

Just read on the Academy website that the CH-53E is getting delayed until summer of 07. That sucks. Guess we'll have 2 years to make room on our shelves.

Just kidding, : )

I'm kinda hoping that they will eventually put one out in 1/72! We've needed a Marine -E kit of that for a while!

There is rumor that Italeri is re-releasing their 1/72 CH-53E kit. They just re-released their 1/72 CH-53D model recently. Keep your fingers crossed.

My fingers are already taken up with the rumored 1/35 Hook and this 1/48 -53E! Plus I'm still hoping for a Stryker and M198 in plastic, too. Yep, makes it hard to type with all my fingers crossed...

(off topic)
LJ, did you see the resin M198 review in the latest FSM? Looked ok to me.....but I wouldn't pay $73 for it, lol. That money is much better spent on new helo kits anyways.

I read that review very closely, and it does look like a good kit, but I'm with you AH1Wsnake, and can't convince myself to try a full resin kit, nor pay that much for it. Not with the coming helos! I can almost hear those plastic rotor blades beating the air now...
