Photos needed: UH-1C and AH-1T+
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, July 25, 2005 10:38 PM
Hi,
I have the MRC kits of these choppers and would like to detail their engine bay and rotor bay (or whatever they are called). Please, if you have photos of these areas (or photos of similar helicopters), help me...

Thank you.

Have you tried a Google Image Search?

UH-1C, over 500 photos:

AH-1T+, same as an AH-1W (AH-1T+ was the demonstrator name, Academy's W kit is the sam ewith different decals)
AH-1W, over 1400 images:

I do not mean to be disrespectful, but I do know the wonders of Google. The problem is, as I already mentioned that I cannot find photos of the ACTUAL engine bay and rotor bay. You know, the place where the engine is and which is quite busy with cables and stuff. Now, I asked, if anyone has photos of THIS area. Because on Google I did not find any photos. Which does not mean they are not there, but you have to admit: the position of cables are not really visible on Vietnam-era photos of Huey flying in the distance. At least, my eyes are not that good.
Thank you for the answer.

If you follow some of the photos to their home pages, you will find full walkarounds of the aircraft. You just have to dig a little harder.

Also try here at Helicopter Walkarounds: http://helicopterwalkarounds.czweb.org/?section=1

Ord here at Aircraft Resource Center: http://s96920072.onlinehome.us/walk-chopper.htm

If you dig a little, you will find the pics.

Oh, wait. Look, here is the AH-1W engine from the google search:

Thank you very much for the advice and for the links. As for digging, I did dig a bit. And I came up with that only one photo you mention at the end.
I never said I know all the photos and walkarounds online; http://212.158.133.3/hwa/david_harvey/UH-1H/index.htm this one in particular was very helpful, and I have never seen it before. (Google keywords: Huey, walkaround) The aircraft resource Center is copied onto my harddrive, by the way. :)

(Man, I'm going to get some...)
Anyway, I have been digging, and there's another part I'm having problem with: the joining of the top of the instrument console to the fuselage of the UH-1C. In the MRC kit there's a gap; and I don't know if there is supposed to be a gap or not. If there's a gap, then I'd have to do the back side of the instrument panel, wiring, etc; and I need photos of this area. But I can find none... Any suggestions, beside google? ;)

There should be little to no gap between the windscreen and instrument panel top. Also, the kit is missing the upper portion of the frame that goes behind the panel. It should be solid (with the exception of a few holes for wires, etc. to pass through) from the floor to the top of the nose.

Here are a few shots of the area.

(It's going to be fun tring to install the instrument panel right...)

Here are some photos of the AH-1W engine and tranny compartment which is the same as the AH-1T+. The engine compartment in the MRC kit lacks detail and needs a lot of work, bulkheads, engine detailing etc but is doable. You are opening a can of worms if you want to do the tranny. I started this a couple of years ago and never got around to finisihing it but I don't like the fact that the kit doesn't have any of this detail. Too bad they couldn't have added at least the swashplates and the top of the tranny so you see something when you look down. Imagine a model company trying to sell something like a Corsair where there is no engine face, just a prop hub ging into the cowling. That is what most helo kits are like.

I opened up the top of the doghouse, added a tranny, c-box, servos, hyd pumps, bulkheads, etc. There is a lot of stuff you have to add if you open this up.

Thank you... These photos are perfect! (And, yes, my god... this is going to take some time to replicate.) :)

Thank you again.

I really don't see a major problem with the MRC UH-1C instrument panel. The only thing I had to do was file down the right corner of the hood so it wouldn't be pushing against the windshield.
