I think most kits in Airfix's "Smithsonian" series were just reboxes of some of their other kits.

Their 1/72 F-14 Tomcat was released in normal boxing before it was released in "Smithsonian" packaging. It was good in its day (early-mid 70's) but takes a lot to hit today's standards.

I'm not familiar with the Airfix Apache, but I suspect, typical to Airfix, with the right research materials you can get a good representation of the real thing out of it.

As for collector value, I don't suspect it would have a lot, Apache kits were a dime a dozen for several years, it really got popularized after the film, "Firebirds" was made. The film stunk but the Apache got quite a lift in popularity, just like what "Top Gun" did for the F-14.

Sounds to me that it's just a model of the Apache that's on display at the A&S Museum - or - it came from the A&S Museum giftshop.

But that is just an educated guess.

I do Chinooks - not Apaches

2 Burnin' - 6 Turnin'
Ramps Up - Ready In The Rear

I received this as a gift from my sister and am wondering about its accuracy and whether it could be a rare kit. I am more into military ground vehicles than things that fly and am wondering if you rotorheads can give me any advice on it?It says Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Airfix AH64 Apache on the box and instruction sheet with a copywrite date of 1998.Its rated skill level three on the box.I am not afraid to build it but want to know if its worth my time to do so.Happy flying and modelingSmile [:)]
