Okay, I'm new to all this. I already have Gino's opinion of this kit and of the reviews I have found online it seems like a good one. I am an armor/figure/dio guy and this will be my first helicopter. I would not say I am a rivet counter, but I do not like to leave out major items on a model or allow glaring accuracy errors (I know that's subjective).

I remember years ago reading something that the only disappointing thing about the kit was that it did not have the rivets that are prominant on the real thing. Is my memory off, or is this correct? I can't see leaving off all those rivets, and it would be a huge pain if that is what I am getting myself into. If the kit (which I have but left in GA, so I will be getting it in my grubby hands sooner or later) lacks these, has anybody out there actually gone to the trouble of adding them?

I also bought the two Cobra updates for this kit.

And I bought the CMK GIBs, which I have read here are not so good. The legs seem a little too thin, kind of like the old Tamiya modern US figures, but I could probably live with them. I think a good paint job would make them look better than the box art.

My idea is to depict the long end run the 101st participated in during Desert Storm, where they were dropped off in the middle of the desert. I think the CMK figures are okay for this. The new Nemrod figures look like OIF to me.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Bob,
The issue isn't that the rivets were left off, they are just recessed as opposed to raised. I don't think it is worth the trouble to replace all the recessed rivets with raised ones, but if you are up for it, go for it, it is quite a challenge though. Andy did it above and they look great, just too much work for me. I think it looks fine with the recessed ones.

Gino:

Since the glue points are already there w/ the recessed rivets, maybe I can get my wife to do them (wink wink).

Either her or the kids. Send it here and maybe I can have one of my LTs get right on it.

Hi to all,

I also just got hold of the academy kit and with a little research also noticed the recessed rivets. Any way, its still a very good kit and cant wait to build it!
Still looking for more photos of the engine details. Im also planning on making the rotor motorised using a gearbox from an old model.

LOL, so that's how you can kick out your builds so fast; you're delegating! Nice job Gino!
