revell 1/48 huey hog

It's a fun little kit. Exactly that. Fun. I still enjoy mine, innaccuracies and all.

Not a bad kit, do your homework to correct the inaccuracies in the kit. Note all the weapons shown on the box top were never used in that combination and not on Marine birds.

I've just been reading through all the threads and came across yours. I'm just about to start to build this model although as of yet only got as far as taking all the pieces for the cockpit off the sprues and sanded them down. The pilot and co-pilot aren't the best moulded figures I've seen and were a bit rough. I'll have a go at painting them next week when I have some time off and the Mrs is on nights/kids are asleep. Have you started yours yet?
I also saw in one of the threads on "Figures"(1/48 figures), that you can get 1/48 figures from a place in France. I've had a look and they do 'Nam era figures for sitting in the back/door gunners etc that look OK. Let me know how you're getting on and any tips.

It's a good kit to practice on; lots of filling and sanding. The last one I built about 7 years ago and it's still in one piece!

I built this B-Model almost 18 years ago for a friend who flew them with D Company, 229th AHB, "Smilin' Tigers". As I recall it looked like it had parts from a B, a C, and an E model. I trashed the main rotor and fabbed one up from a Esci D model. I removed the sand filter from atop the cabin, scratched up some roof top air scoops, scratchbuilt the seats and used PP Aeroparts hardware for the restraints. The interior structure was made up from plastic and balsa and vacuformed to give the interior a more detailed appearance. I had to fiddle with the stabilizes, but can't remember exactly what it was
that I did. The paint job was weathered with a light burnt umber wash and pastels and sealed with Floquil flat (this was in the days before weathering A/C became a religion),
Prior to weathering I post-shaded the various panels and buffed out the flat finish before applying matalizer sealer as a base for the decals.

It's a fun little kit to put together. I did mine many years ago. It's not very accurate, but it turns into a nice representation of a huey gunship. It looks pretty good when put together, but it's not very detailed or accurate.

One more thing, be sure you put a little weight into the nose. Otherwise, it'll want to balance at the back of the skids.

I built this as my first Helo kit when I was 9. I can't really tell you how good the "kit" was but I used to always glue first, think later. This was also a time before paint and pullty. If I remember the fuselage halves sucked like a sucking machine. Huge Gap. tell me how yours turns out.
