This is AWESOME news!! I know what I will be asking for come Christmas. I would imagine that it wont be too long before the resin aftermarket details come out and we can build what version ever we want.

Speaking of Chinooks, I have the Italeri kit, and I am missing the clear sprue, does anyone know who I can contact to get a new one?

Avus,

I've got actual CH-47D's on the ramp, but I've got the manuals for the MH-47 on CD.

Great Cobrahistorian!

But are we talking about MH-47E or CH-47D.
I understand that Trumpeter's kit will be the delta version but I'd like to convert it to an echo. I'd need pics that show the differences marke was talking about:

I just want to know how they're gonna represent all of the plumbing near the rear door. Every time I look at it, my mind goes numb just thinking of the possibility of having to model it.

Avus, you need good references? I've got sixteen of em sitting out on the tarmac, just lemme know what you need. After this weekend I'll have my digital camera here too, so I won't have to pay to get em developed.

Thanks for the info marke. I'll have a look at the site you mentioned.

If I find good reference scratchbuiding is not an issue. I already have made resin copies of the chaff/flare dispensers for a Pavehwak I'm working on and I also figured that the IFR probe has to be longer.

Guess I know what to ask Santa for ... Wink [;)]

Me too adrake2.

All these months I've been hearing Sept,05 but I guess now they desided to try the Xmas rush. That's cool. As long as I can have one by then I'll be willing to wait a little bit longer. When I sat on Santas knee this year that's all I'm asking him for , a Trumpeter 1/35 CH-47A/D Chinook Model Kit. That will make me have a very merry Xmas!!!!!!!!! Wink [;)] I hope you guys will get one as well!!! Good luck to all us HOOK fans out there!!!!Smile [:)]Wink [;)]
Take care all.

Avus.

There is a few BIG diffrances in the MH-47E that might be hard to achieve. For example the bigger nose and the bigger side sponsons!! Those are the things
that might be a problem. The other details should be pretty easy and alot of those parts can be found in the Academy 1/35 Pave Hawk kit. You may have to scratch build the chaff/flair despencers. That monster has a ton of those and the refuleing probe of the Pave Hawk kit is much to short but you deffinatly could make one from sprue and use the tip of the Pave Hawks probe for a nice touch.
Go to this web site www.chinook-helicopter.com there is several good pix of the MH-47E that can be used as referance on its many details!!
I think that Trumpeter will do it in the near future and Cobra Co. might make the resin parts for this conversion.

Take care and good luck!!

Thanks for the update J-Hulk!
I promised not to buy a model larger than a soldier but I might make an exception for this one! Looking forward to it. Would make a nice X-Mas present. Wink [;)]

Interesting you mentioned the MH-47E, Marke. I was considering converting Trumeter's model to the SOF version. Would it be too much of a work?
Consider that I would use some parts (IFR probe, FLIR, Radar, IR Detector's, Miniguns etc) from Acdamy's Blackhawks.

You brought some intresting detail to light. I think that it is very possible that Trumpeter could very well include parts in this kit to make a CH-47 A B C and D model Chinook!!
I'm sure that Trumpeter did there home work on the Chonook's many features depending on the model. If Trumpeter is useing the moldes that MRC made than We have a lot of great things to look forword to. The pix that oldhooker posted some time back of those molds clearly show that MRC made both type of rotor blades. MRC even made mockup parts for the A/ACH-47A GO GO Bird. I'm farely comfident that Trumpeter got ahold of those molds and the many details are going to be accurate.
If all those parts are included in the box than I plan to do the A B C and D models.
I hope in the very near future that a way will be provided to do it as a MH-47E Special ops birds.

Take care all !!!

Hmmm… an A & a D kit. Well, first, that would mean the kit should come with 2 sets of rotor blades. The D model blades are wider than the A blades, & the difference would be very noticeable in that scale. Also the A model blade dampner bracket is an open design, while the D model is solid.

The instrument panel layout in the cockpits are different from A to a D, & the ECL (throttle equivalent) are on the bottom on the A, but are on an overhead panel on the D.

The aft pylons access doors are different as well. The A model doors are solid, with 4 small grill openings, while the D model has a big notch in it, but I would think it would be easy to include a set of each of these doors. The trailing edge of the aft pylon differs also. The As came to a tapering point, looking like a teardrop when viewed from above. The Ds trailing edge is flat & blunt.

Some panel lines are different from the A to D. While they look the same, the A only had 2 fuel tanks, while the D has 6. That means the “over the wing” gravity fuel filler ports might be separate. The As engine inlet screen are smaller than the D, & the engine cowlings have different mesh screens openings.

The pitot tube number & location are different. The D has 2 on booms on the nose (the machine gun looking things on the nose) & the A only had 1, mounted above the windshield.

The center cargo hooks are different, with the As having a rolling beam support, & the D is a solid beam support.

Those are all I could thing of right off the top of my head. To me, it seems feasible that the kit might include parts for both, but I’m not convinced that they will get it right, especially the rotor blade width.

Does this mean that there is parts in the box to make a D model or are they going to release other versions soon after the A???? If so I sure hope that there's a MH-47E from the 160th SOR and a GO GO Bird in the mix!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sure hope we will see them here in the States soon!!!!!

Glad to be of service!
Of course I don't know what's in the box, but it was definitely listed as a CH-47A/D, so I would assume you can make it either an A or D model. Not that I would know the difference, but there you are!

I would guess you should see them in the States around the same time...Trumpeter and Dragon always seem to get their stuff on the shelves world-wide at about the same time.

Thanks for the update from the Far East, J-Hulk. I know there was a thread about a misprinted price that put this kit at the $1000 USD range. Good to know it's a much more tolerable price...Now I just have to find space for the box in the stash, as well as on the shelf for when I finally get one of these babies!

Trumpeter 1/35 CH-47A/D Chinook: December release (old news?)
Posted by J-Hulk on Saturday, August 27, 2005 8:05 AM
Hey folks, just read in this month's Model Graphix that Trump's 1/35 CH-47A/D Chinook will finally be released here in Japan in December, selling for 11,000 yen ($100 USD).
Didn't see anything about it in the last couple of pages here, so I thought ya'll would like to hear about it. Smile [:)]
