                        For anyone who lives in the Washington DC area, just a note that the Patuxent River Air Show is this weekend (9/3 & 4), Saturday and Sunday. They had a practice show today, to which base employees were welcome, so I took the chance to shoot some pictures before the crowds arrive over the weekend. I'll put some detail pics online later, but here's a sample:

                        Check out the finish on this V-22. It's painted a very shiny metallic steel color. Not sure what the story is with this. Also note the light gray on the bottom.

                        I'm going to the show over the weekend to take some more. Hopefully they will bring out a Zulu or MH-60S.

                        That last Osprey shot in interesting - different from a stock MV-22B. I can't help but think of the F/A-22As metallic finish. Hmmmm... strange things afoot at the paint shop?

                        Yeah, cool shots, thanks for sharing them with us. I don't know what to think about that last V-22. Very interesting color scheme. Wonder what that's all about?

                        I was at the show on Sunday. The Boeing rep said that it was a new lightweight paint being evaluated and if successful, may be used in the fleet. But the Marine Staff Sergeant who was with the other V-22 said that the Air Force was using one of the Marine birds for evaluation.

                        I’ve posted some more pics over at the aircraft forum.

                        I was there Sunday as well, and I got the same story about lightweight paint. I find the metallic sheen a little odd, and wonder why it looks that way. I assume there's no real metal in it, since that would be bad for radar reflection. I build car models occasionally, and from memory it looks pretty close to testor's metallic steel paint.

                        The air shows at Pax are usually pretty good places to get pictures, but I was a little disappointed that they didn't bring out an AH-1Z, UH-1Y or an MH-60S. I'd really like to convert a UH-60L to an MH-60S. Next show should be in two years, so plan ahead.

                        Rotor&Wing had a little piece about that finish. I seem to remember something about the weight issue and radar/IR signature. I'll try to dig and find it.
